Xenon invasion: the terrible truth

Post by Feersum » Sun, 25. Jul 04, 17:51

This is horrible. My game is ruined.
I took a Xenon invasion mission in Getsu Fune. But! The message "Xenon are coming" appeared all over the BBSes, only in the Boron Trading station there were 4 copies of it!
And guess what, when you take one, rest of them stay there.
I took the mission, completed it, pocketed 60 million credits.
Returned to the Boron station. Three more xenon invasions still there!
I did three of them in a row. Now my bank account has 180 million credits. And still there is one more message "Xenon are coming to get us".
Now tell me, is this a bug or a goddamn feature? And if this a feature, I'll personally wring the neck of the sucker who devised that.

I played the game for 4 long months. I have fought, I have captured, I died innumerable times. Built a decent trading empire, got me several M2s, trading station and a dock, several TLs. But I had to work my a** off for every credit I had! Now where's the fun in getting 180 million easy credits?

if it really bothers you that much... spend all of it on a huge fleet of discos and see how long they last in a xenon sector... go on... it'd be fun... or you could just load a earlier save.

As a mather of fact it bothers me... all the hard work, all these months I spent at the game... why, oh why?

Guess it's reload time.

I think that's a pretty unique oppurtunity though, most people here seem to have a hard enough time finding one, let alone 4!

Well the Invasion missions are not supposed to be that common so if your seeing 3 or 4 on the same BBS id say its a bug or a problem with your installation of x2.

Apoch designed them to be rare.

Also its upto the player to choose to do them or not, so if your making too much money too fast then just stop doing them.

Simple :)

IMHO, getting money is too easy in 1.4 now with all the assassination missions, M6 capturing and other well-paying missions including Xenon invasion.

It has totally ruined the thing that is the reason I bought X2: trading.

In the past making a fortune by trading has been very slow and I guess those assassination missions and others have come into the game to compensate it. But - IMHO - factories and trading should be the nr 1 source of income, no questions asked. If I could decide I'd increase the overall revenue of all factories a bit and lowered assassination rewards to reasonable levels. So that a mogul owning several dozens of factories wouldn't have to take on assasination missions to make money if he didn't want to.

Also I hate the fact that as your combat rating increases it becomes impossible to do any of the assassination missions in lower ship classes (as far as I have understood it? I'm not that far in the game yet to know myself). From time to time I would like to pick easier missions that I can complete in a Buster or Nova just to get some exciting fighter-fighter combat.

Regarding "Lower Class ships and higher ranks"

Yes I have been thinking about this my self lately.
Its good getting paid 4 million every time i do an assination mission but it can become too easy to make money I agree.

I've cooled down a bit now. So: I've seen 4 or 5 of these missions appear on a single bulletin board before. Just didn't think they'll stay after I complete one of them.
So far, I've completed two invasions, not counting the multiple in Getsu Fune - in Thyn's Abyss and in Scale Plate Green. For the second one there were multiple instances of the message in a single board. And half of them were for a different combat rank! Some wanted my rank - CA 1st. Rest of them wanted CA 2nd.
Nothing wrong with my installation: I reinstalled the whole game right before I patched to 1.4. So it could really be a bug.

Ive only found one, netted me 18 million, and havnt seen one since, all that money has now been invested in lots and lots of factories.

IMHO i think the mission was too easy, i did it in a Khaak M3, the Xenon had no chance and there was only 1 K, so with all the forces combined, it didnt take long to destroy it.

I have to say i think this is a remarkabbly daft thing to say. Trading is the same it ever was, and it's a nice safe way of making money. But assassinations and Xenon invasion missions are now far more dangerous, there is a genuine chance of you dieing; They are Risky things to undertake. Therefore it makes sense that the player should be compensated far beyond what they would be stick to safe harmless endeavours like trading.

You don't like it? don't do the missions.

I know trading is the same it has been before, but making money is not. In 1.3 trading was by far the best and easiest way to make money. Actually it was the only way to make decent money, and I'm grateful other money-making options have arrived for us to take advantage of. Only if they didn't overdo it. In a pure money-making perspective there is no more point in maintaining your factories other than supplying purposes for your own ships once you've got a decent ship to fly the assassination and Xenon invasion missions. The rate you can make money at by doing the missions will render your factories obsolete, as their contribution to your funds gets fractional of what it should be. Building and maintaining factories takes a lot more time and effort than doing an assassination mission, and I think it's the amount of effort that should count, not the risk.

Don't get me wrong. I like the new assassination missions and their increased rewards but they are way overdone in my opinion. The game is out of balance as I see it.

Also - as I mentioned before - I'd really like to have lower-class missions available at all times, too, as I'd prefer to do some fighter stuff as well in between the fierce M2 assassination missions. That's another thing I'd like to see an improvement on. It's the relative difficulty that should increase with ranks (and payment), not the absolute difficulty. Apoch did an excellent job, but it could be even better.

Just my 5 euro cents.

I agree that assasination missions seem to be all to frequent and there is no way of not increasing race rank and getting millions as long as the mark is killed. I also would like to see the missions reflect the posting (ie: if the posting is for rookie then the escort should be in a disco and pay like 1000 credits), if you are at a much higher rank you could then use your m2,m6,m5 or whatever.
On a side note, making money waaaay too easy once you've advanced up the ladder in 1.4. I think it won't be long before we will see many many more people at the extreme rank. It took me about a month to get from pan galactic tycoon to extreme and now I could easily do it in a week. Why bother :?

With new stations costing upto 50Mill, and M2/M1 ships costing approx 90Mill, how have you ruined your game.? Rewards are scaled to Rank, so imho, with the added fact that these are BBS missions, - i.e. there is absolutely no obligation for the player to take them, I can't honestly believe your game has been ruined.. :)

In my non-dev game I have close to 200 facs, multiple TL's and M6's, and I would still consider the rewards you've gained to be nominal. But also bear in mind that if I lose an AI controlled M6 or M2 in combat, I don't reload. I can happily look you in the eye and say that.

So far I've lost 1 AI Mammoth, 1 Dragon (ejected before it exploded), and 1 AI Osprey.

So taking into account the manner in which you play the game, perhaps you could try not reloading unless you die.. :) Either way, its your game, play it the way you want. The choice is yours..

Here is the way i look at it...

1:- If you would rather make your fortune by Trading... Then trade...
Believe me.. it realy is that simple..... Why complicate things by complaining about OPTIONAL BBS missions????

2:- If you want to make your fortune by getting into fights & doing assasinations... Go look at the BBS missions!!

3:- As your combat rank advances, in theory so does your skill, i can kill 4 Centaurs in a Barracuda.. Frankly i ENJOY the challenge, and i play using just the Keyboard...

MORAL OF THIS STORY IS.

Be Gratefull you have the CHOICE of how you make your money.
Seriously, Complaining about optional missions is pointless...
Egosoft go to the bother of adding a little challenge to X2 after the community are crying out for it.. and there STILL not happy!!!

Im a die-Hard Trader, but i like a good scuffle now and then as much as the next man, and im GRATEFULL that these "scuffles" are an option to me rather than forced on me.
