Deliver Missions Qestions ?

Post by Nikola515 » Thu, 28. Dec 17, 23:48

I been getting back to XR and game looks pretty good with updates..... Anyway can someone explain to me how do deliver missions work. Are they randomly generated or they actually match what item and what stations needs. Reason why I'm asking this is because I got mission that is asking crystal supplier for ore ? As far as I know they need crystals and nivdium ??? I thought it was typo but when I accepted mission it actually asked for ore...

I just started to do those missions and they are pretty fun so I don't know much about them....

Might be randomly generated, I'm not sure. I've done a few and they matched the needs of the stations, for me. They're more profitable than YAT / automated traders, for sure.

How they work:

The mission is asking you to deliver X units of a ware to a station. No time limit. A trade offer will be created at that station for the specific ware X as soon as you accept the mission, I guess regardless of what the station actually uses.

It is up to you to manually order one of your trading ships to go buy the ware (or, in some cases, mine the ore / collect the gas, ions, plasma, etc.), and then sell the ware to the specific station. The profit calculations you see in the various trade windows when you buy / sell the stuff do not take into account the mission payout, so you may see something like -70k (profit loss) for the actual trade, but then you'll get 1.5m payout for the mission.

I personally have one of my trading ships on standby to go buy the stuff from wherever it's cheaper, and for selling it (to complete the mission), I open the mission window, and the buttons at the bottom of that window become, in succession:

Mission Briefing -> Show on Map -> Details (of station) -> Trade Offers (of that station), and then you just make sure that the correct ship is selected at the top, to deliver the required material to the (already-selected) correct station. Helps a lot if you've got 5-7 of these missions all waiting for delivery; starting from the mission window ensures you deliver to the correct station for each mission.

You don't have to be in the zone babysitting your trade ship, you can be elsewhere and the mission will complete as soon as the ship is done delivering.

If you're in the zone, and/or interacting with the trade terminals instead of using the mission window, ANY trade terminal at the correct station will work. I had an issue with one of the stations being attacked by a capital ship that focused its fire on the trade terminal that was highlighted as the mission objective, and it destroyed it, but my trade ship still completed the mission by using a different trade terminal at that station.

It's a good idea to decline, quick-check availability of what they're asking, then accept the mission if it's plentiful. Some things, like Ions and Plasma, are never sold because they're raw mats that are somewhat rare; you'll have to collect them yourself and that may take some time.

You haven't asked, but other BB missions are fun (or easy) too:

- Protect the station - easy because the station protects itself too; well, you may get a strong capital ship as the attacker, but IMO that's just an opportunity to board/capture it.

- Escort - easy if it doesn't involve traveling between zones (highway travel is meh), but don't let the pirates get into missile range of the ship you're protecting (a "Hard" rating on the mission description will mean they'll try to go crazy with the heavier missiles).

- Protect the ambassador - I think it gets buggy if you take a highway route to the first location, and it will make you patrol each location twice. When I ignored the highways and just after-burned to the first location, the mission seemed to work as described in the briefing.

- Mystery container sale, Fair priced ship for sale, Abandoned / Secret Stash - it's relatively easy to find the objective if you have a police-grade long range scanner, and the "surprise!" is revealed by the long range scanner too.

Also, there's a useful bug / unintended feature with these missions:
SpoilerShow
If you look at the mission objectives, the mission may pan all over the sector map to show you where to go, and as it does this it shows you all the capital ships in space, red dots and blue dots. It's apparently a live map. Very nice and easy way to guess where all the pirate Titurels are currently, so you can go there and capture them. Normally you don't get live info like this unless you happen to have a ship in each zone in the sector, acting as a navsat.

Hey, that just gave me an idea, I wonder if beacons act as navsats. I'll have to check that tomorrow.

Thank you for detail explanation. Honestly I played XR for almost 1500h and I never bother doing half of those missions. I usually do boss, defense and build station missions. Last time I played XR was 3.0 and I noticed lots have changed. Currently I'm roleplaying as trader (mostly) I'm doing trading and trading missions. My plan is to rebuild DV from scratch and make them self sufficient economy. I'm using some mods to give them stations to make it more realistic ;) Thanks for advice ill check those other missions as well (except boring escort missions) ;)

Escort missions are like station defense missions. You accept them and then you go on and let them so their thing. In 98% of those missions they arrive safely at their destination at some Point. From last 20 mission i accepted, only one failed.

I was about to mention that since there are no RoC Crystal Supplier stations in the vanilla freeplay or campaign games :p

Like ajax34i, in my experience I've only noticed delivery missions for wares that made sense for the station in question. It's possible we simply missed some odd possibilities, like ore for a Crystal Supplier, but maybe the way the mod works confuses the mission system.

I think this is the only case that I noticed so far as well. Everything else is based on real economy as well. I just added station in to the game and give them to NPC. There is no other mods to alter mission behavior. I also have construction shop, metalworks yard in same zone. Perhaps combination of those stations together is doing this ?

Hi,

two comments: Take this mission always if the container is cheap. You often find the "rare engine" parts in them.

If the container is expensive, it may not be worth the money. And: There might be a trap.
SpoilerShow
If you get a yellow ping accompanied by some white ones (ships), a pirate group might want to lure you to the (empty) container and kill you. You can abandon the mission as long as you are not too close.

Abandon the mission? Hell no. I accepted the mission for the killing, not for the loot. I have a joystick, I'm playing a dogfighting space game, this is the fun. Egosoft did good with the improvements to the NPCs using a wider variety of fighter-class ships, and with their increased and appropriate use of missiles against me. Skunk feels like the Hyperion-V now (still doesn't look like it though).

The mission is worth money (profitable) even if expensive, because it sets up the zone with the loot container as a "not-empty" zone, and
SpoilerShow
Not-empty zones will have random locked containers spawn all over the place for as long as I stay there in long-range scanner mode. I don't just ping for the mission container, I stick around and ping for other containers for a while, and I get green, blue, and yellow pings. It's not rare to fill up on Terran goods or contraband worth 5-10 million.
Otherwise, rare engine parts are nice, but Egosoft's 4.30 patch made finding the mission icon a "nope" for me. So, **** the rare engine and its parts. I ranted about it twice already, so I won't again.

Actually this discussion gave me an idea how to search for my rare engine part, needed for the Jump drive - using the Mystery containers..
I am busting my arse in Toride and killing thousands of Xenon ships and can't find the Concentrator part.. Its like game is playing joke on me.
I can already assemble 3 engines without that part..

At one point in my last game I had each part around 10 times - apart from one. Then I quickly got three of them. It's purely random.

I haven't killed a single Xenon yet and I've gotten parts for 2 engines. Although, looking at the chance for each part, some parts I have 10+ of, others only 2.

In any case, they can randomly drop from any ships that get destroyed. And containers, too.

How are you collecting loot? Assailer's Fly-by Looting mod is pretty awesome.

Vanilla'R'Us

You can use the long range scanner to locate flying loot containers. They give a blue ping.

I usually do exploring for crates at beginning of game with long range scanner(easy money).... Does anyone know if only loot boxes spawn in sectors ??? Once in DV I noticed 5 containers of wheat just floating in space . I assumed one of ships got blown up or perhaps they spawn just like loot boxes ???

I'm *fairly* sure that must have been from some agricultural freighter that came to an unfortunate end.
