Graphics lag

When ever i go into combat in AP against enemy Frigates, Carriers or Destroyers, the game now suffers from immense graphics lag, i have the very latest Nvidia driver for my gfx card and i turned down the game video settings to their lowest points and nothing has changed at all, everything is absolutely fine until the capital ships show up.

I have a Geforce 650 GTX gfx card, AMD FX 6 Core CPU and 16GB RAM so resources are not an issue here, does anyone have any suggestions ?
