Hi a few of my Sector traders have now given me this problem. However when I try to get them to start again, perhaps in a different area they won't.

I just get the same message about them being unable to sell regardless of location. Please tell me I don't have to go and empty their fright bays or something as that would suck.

Go empty their freight bays Smile

Check them first to see what they're carrying, then check their allowed trading range to make sure they have suitable buyers within range (try to keep range <3 for defensive purposes). If you have excess stuff that refuses to be sold you may need to set up some sort of warehouse (EqD or Trade Station, with appropriate prices set) to offload them..

My preferred solution is to line up insubordinate UT pilots and shoot them.

Hahahahah, Tim! Very Happy

But yes, UTs, especially at low levels, are notorious for sometimes filling up on something and then, if they get beaten to the deal they had planned, they can't cope (this behaviour does, however, improve as their proficiency levels increase.) So while they are still learning the ropes, you may occasionally find yourself having to sell off their stock manually, then restarting the TCS3 command. Also, from what I've observed, if you've tried restarting the command while they are carrying cargo, it seems that they forget about the cargo they've already bought, and end up never selling it off unless manually ordered to. To avoid this, it's best not to interfere with them unless they are stuck for a truly long time - if left to their own devices, they WILL eventually sell off purchased stock once a good enough deal becomes available.

You can eject them into the vacuum. It's called "self-destruct." Not cheap though.

Firestorm Torpedo into the tailpipe costs only a bit more, but is much more satisfactory. Twisted Evil

If you are conserned about the cost, then pick up some abandoned sub 10% hull and transfer the pilot into it. Your good freighter is then "clean".

I would follow that snafu recipe:
  1. Train first as Sector Trader in a sector that has enough opportunities.
  2. Transfer to a production area, when sufficient Local Trader range (1-3) is available.
  3. If the trade still stalls, then bite the bullet, clear the bay and revise your steps 1 and 2.

Hi,

apart from creatively shooting them, you can equip them with the "Best sales" software and have them sell the ware outside their area.

Or just use any intelligent trader like Economy Supply Traders.

One can also reassign them to a Pirate or Xenon sector, and the problem will disappear shortly. That unfortunately costs a lot to replace with a new potential problem.

I normally prefer to find some nearby sector where I can at least get a reasonable price for the overstocked goods, or better opportunities, then restart them in either the original location or the new one, depending. It's little time-consuming annoyances like this that prevent me from ever using SETA after about the first day of game time.
