2024 total eclipse

Only a few hours left until we can experience a total solar eclipse in Northern America. (April 8, 2024)

Thought about doing a short trip to the US for that - after all, the next one will take a while (2026 -> https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/ ). But I guess I'll wait another 2 years and enjoy this one via stream only...

I saw the 2017 eclipse in Idaho. It was a completely clear sky. It was stunning. No partial eclipse comes close to the experience of being able to see with your unaided eyes the sun's corona streaming out from the black center. I saw it from the rim of an extinct volcano in the middle of a flat plain, so I could see the shadow of the moon as it moved along the plains coming to where I was at.

Here's some of the photos I took today in Stoney Creek Ontario. I really liked how the clouds lightened up enough to see, but also produced a really cool blue glow through the clouds.

Watched the whole nasa+ stream and really regret not having experienced it with my own eyes. Ah well - my future self now has the knowledge to do something about that.
