No Voices, Windows 10 (N edition) - resolved with MS codec download.
Hi
Just grabbed X3 TC and AP off steam (and they verify 100%),
Trying to start a new game, neither have working voices.
Its a fairly new windows 10 install, no additional CODEX installed.
Could be because windows 10 doesn't have WMP? nor can you install WMP in windows 10.
There any other way to get the WMP codex installed?

Hi. If MS kept to their previous OS title coding scheme then you have:
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro N 64-bit
The N series OS is usually the European version not only with no bundled WMP (as with all other versions of Win10) but also with no facilities to operate sound with WMP codecs and sound standards either. This was meant to be a deliberate omission choice in selecting to buy the N series OS. I personally have no idea what you can do about that with a Win10 N series OS apart from installing a separate MS or 3rd Party media player application.
You can try this MS download and see if that fixes things. Good luck.

This might be helpful also (compatibility notes for all X games on windows10)

Hi. See how you get on without k-lite although I cannot see any of the usual suspect codecs in your DxDiag.
You are having a lot of USB driver-related issues reported. Make sure you remove any unnecessary USB devices (especially ones involving audio) while playing.
Also make sure you try a stereo or quadraphonic speaker layout setting in your sound device control panel as 5.1/7.1 surround-sound does not always work with X games (since XP) and then audio channels can get lost.
Good luck.

ok, well, i honestly could not tell you what ive just done to make it work, but it works now
i uninstalled k-lite and tried it - no voices
i installed both x64 and x86 wmp fixes - no voices
i have no usb audio, just bluetooth mouse and cooling tray
there is no configurable 5.1/7.1 option on this laptop, just stereo
i did just check eax to see if that would help, maybe it did??
either way its working - hello irritating station announcments, how ive missed loathing you

Just a note: I was trying to troubleshoot something else, not sure what, and came across a blurb concerning Win 10 and the installation of the ffdshow codec, which caused some people to completely lose certain sounds in certain games. It might be worth looking into. Sorry, I can't go into more detail.

Yes, that is why we have a Sticky on disabling Ffdshow with X games and also recommend removing codec packs such as k-lite, CCCP, etc that tend to include Ffdshow and other X-harmful and totally unnecessary codecs.
