That's easy for me. I remember the first time I rolled to Boron and was so stunned by the background music I just sat there in the asteroid field, cranked up my soundblaster and let it play. Then called "Peace 2" 08101. (Kingdom End's soundtrack number) Now someone sold it or stole it. I've heard boron scores for damn commercials on TV.
That youTube of it had much better quality too.
When I put up that tune of mine some of the people from the Enlight days probably nodded their heads at my mention of it and went, oh yeah. Renoise.
At that time these Boron theme tunes became known as "The Peace Tracks". You could probably score the 3D threads with these. If sites had soundtracks.
I got hooked and started to ask questions about the score. The answers I got here as they did with 3D changed my life.
You had me going going back to the site "bible". The old thread in Scripting and modding: Musical map of X3 Universe. Clak2 I think this needs it's own thread.
IN 2006 I'd dropped midi until X3 Reunion got me back into it. I'd done Midi on old Fender synth that was tied with early (90's) Soundblasters. Tuning midi right to mp3 didn't happen and wav files were too large for games for the most part. When got trapped in the early X3 universe I asked the question by PM, what are you using? I got a long list, but at the top was Renoise. Most on the list were software/hardware. Renoise is software and I grabbed it. Suddenly I had an orchestra of my own. I lost a lot of the use of my right hand, there went piano and guitar, with midi synth you needed a mouse. Those I had.
It's still out there on the web just google it. Some sounds like kickpads in the Reunion soundtrack are still in use. You just can't beat perfection. Most of they sampled themselves I think. Choral sampling is out there now, but in 2004-5 it was rough and you knew it was generated. I think X3 sampled the real deal. It took a certain amount of genius to put out the "Peace tracks" 08105 stands out as one of the best. For shear midi flexibility.
Later when working for another game I caught the sound people ripping off the first strains of 00024. "It happens. Shut up about it." Okay. Though X3 wasn't immune from "Sampling" the old game Starcross and using a refrain in 00023. Most of the midi tags were stripped in the mp3 files, a few weren't. 06005, the "Battle and Peace tracks aren't as are their title blocks. I wanted the midi files, but wasn't surprised when told, no way. I should ask again I suppose. With so much new in Renoise libraries changing the instruments in the tracks would be cool!
