why can't I dock at "AES....blah" station (Cuspid Spirit campaign mission)

I'm at Cuspid Spirit or something, running the main campaign. I'm supposed to dock at AES blah something. I'm sitting literally right on top of the docking pad but I can't for the life of me dock. I tried targeting the station (Control F) but that only seems to target surrounding craft. I pressed Control D which is supposed to dock while facing the docking pad, I also tried pressing "F" to interact and dock which worked before but now doesn't!? Help please!!!

Click on the docking pad icon (a wineglass, a spanner etc) to select it, /then/ <CTRL-D> to dock

Wasn't it SHIFT+D?

Anyway, I find it more comfortable to simply double-click the icon, move the mouse to right by small bit, and choose DOCK, it's an alternative too.

For you that may be comfortable, but I find I'm playing in free-flight mode most of the time, & moving the mouse by just a tiny bit off the contact you want tends to send the ship into all sorts of contortions

Whatever's best for your style of play will work best for you ofc

I appreciate all the replies! I've done everything suggested, but I can't get any sub menu to pop up (using "F" for interaction) nor does Shift-D work on the spanner. Auto-pilot took me right to the docking pad, I'm literally an inch from it. lol

Shall I post a screenshot or something?

Did you actually target the docking bay? Try to move so that there are no ships behind it (i think ships have priority).

I was finally able to dock. lol I was pointed directly at the landing spanner and left clicked it to target it. Then the dock option from the menu came up. Thanks for everyone's help!!
