idea how to solve the problem with the added ships what not fighting when attacked

I have an idea for better fleet control!

If i give an ship the order to patrol in a zone and adding ships to this ship what is patroling, the added ships should stay in formation like they do now, but the leader ship should inherit the patrol order to the other ships.

The resoult would be that all ships will engange in a fight and not at the time when the leader ship gets attacked.
