Could someone explain the purpose of licenses to me ?

Right so, the only license I really recall from X3 was the police license, which otherwise would have you earn credits for whenever you destroyed an enemy vessel of the faction you were with.

In XR there's the police license, some license which makes it legal for you to carry certain goods, and then there's Intel, and Defense which I have no idea as to what does.

Anyone knows ? Whats the benefit from having those ?

They might be needed to unlock certain rare missions. Or they might be used to unlock more indepth scanning of station modules.

They mostly look like trade licenses, which is actually kinda cool compared to the previous games where each race had a flat list of illegal wares without exception.

Now there are classes of wares where you can earn the right to legally trade in, but are illegal otherwise.

the lic, allows you to police different things ...
the higher the lic. the more you can scan and police... assuming only
as for sales using the lic ... i dont know never tried.
because you can buy a police Scanner for your ship...
