My Thoughts after 10 hours of play!

Post by Randolf00123 » Sat, 16. Nov 13, 02:46

As someone who has owned and played all of the X games, of course I was excited about this release. I spent the morning making sure all my little jobs were done so I could spend as much time as possible enjoying the game and heres what I found........

The game fired up first time for me with no real problems at all, which I am suprised at given the large number of people who had issues with CTD's.

Straight into the campaign and my first thoughts were..... o.O this is different!!??

Its strange but Egosoft have always typically been true to form with their tried and tested formula of game mechanics, and playing this at first felt very alien to me. That being said after 10 minutes of combat, I am not sure I would want to go back to the old X series combat ways.... not by a long shot.

There are issues, graphics, performance, UI are a bit clunky and not the usual method of playing the X games, but then it dawned on me. The first time I played an X game I was almost in tears as the learning curve was immense, it took weeks to really understand what the hell I was doing and the first two hours without a SETA drive was just torture I tell ya!

So there is no SETA, have I found myself pining for it?.... not really as I have been busy with the campaign. Walking around the stations is ok and a novelty at most due to them being very samey and you will end up doing the same things over and over again.

All this said I want to end on a positive note for Egosoft;

It took some balls to change the direction of the series so drastically and while some will always argue that it has not gone well, I think most of these issues and gripes that people have with the game are mainly to be with performance and how it currently looks, all of these things will be patched and with full mod support we all know that the game will be even better.

Should Egosoft take some flak for the state of the game at launch, well yes, yes they should.

Does this mean that X Rebirth is a bad game, no it does not (at least in my opinion), like many others have said, it has immense potential.

I normally measure how good a game is by how long I can play it before i have to take a break, the only time I stopped playing was for food, toilet and to reshape by eyes!

10 hours in and I am still having fun.

really ? explain this to me, im serious. i felt combat to be rather uninspired especially with the dumb ai that either crashes into the stations or simply charges you head on ... they dont do anything else then that.

dumbing things down(and sadly thats whats happened) instead of creating usable tutorials...ah well...
So there is no SETA, have I found myself pining for it?.... not really as I have been busy with the campaign.
so you didnt do any escort missions so far then ? let me tell you how those work without SETA: 4min. Combat & 20min. following a slowpoke transport only for it to get stuck in a superstructure at the end. what was your reasoning against SETA again ?

some ? some ? come on ... even Rome 2 took less fire when it launched and that says a lot ...
