Still undecided. Three months until X: Rebirth and maybe a year and a half until Star Citizen, so I've got time to figure it out. Dang it.

If you back now you can still get access to the alpha and beta of Star Citizen. The first time you will be able to fly with a ship is November/December this year.

I backed SC a long time ago, don't worry. I'm in deeeep. Smile

December is the dogfighting alpha only. There are various alpha / beta releases throughout 2014, but the full game is slated for early 2015.

I'm so glad Rebirth is coming out first. Thanks, Bernd and Egosoft!

I'm sorta pissy about the system requirements because my Core 2 Quad Q6600 doesn't meet the min req.

To upgrade to the 1 processor my board that'll run it will be ~$250-300 purchase, which is freakin' rediculous. I'd rather pop out the $100 more and buy a modern processor and board.....but WHY when the next Gen processors will be out next year. IE, if mine won't run it, I'll be waiting til next year before I can play it.

It is not sure if Core Quad Q6600 will not be sufficient. Todays i5 processors are not too much faster (except new special instructions like AVX and others) especially if Q6600 is overclocked.
We should wait and see if Q6600 @ 3GHz is not enough for X:R.

My Q6600 is only running 2.4GHz hehe.

My personal opinion is that X:R was terrible and loaded with micromanage-y gimmicks, a terrible interface, and was release half-unfinished but maybe in the future it'll go in the right direction. Until then you probably won't see me around that much. Best of luck. I mean it. Smile

Wait, it's 64bit only? Where does it say that?
If true, it'll be able to use an enormous amount of memory and that's a very good thing.

The Steam listing wrote:

OS: Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit), Vista SP2 (64-bit), XP SP3 (64-bit)

If the game truly has a minimum requirement of 4GB of memory then you absolutely need 64bit. 32bit has a maximum limit of 4GB some of that is used for the OS.

I tested some system variations here: http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=1788&game=X%20Rebirth and it is set very high Crying or Very sad.

I'm quite sure a Q6600 will work for XR. The chances that Egosoft has built the binaries with the specific requirements of new instructions are incredibly low, especially since the only requirement on the AMD side is "or equivalent." All they probably mean is the speed equivalent of something like a Sandy Bridge dual core at about 2.8GHz.

I'm definitely going to be upgrading between now and release.

Hi Folks

I was wonder if this CPU would be suitable to XR , I'm not that computer savvy. So advice would be appreciated. I was thinking of buying this processor:

Immerse yourself in the most advanced 3D games.
Achieve extreme mega-tasking with ease.

Features & Benefits
Experience the world’s first native 8-core desktop processor.
Overclock for a big boost in performance and speed1.
Perform mega-tasking and get pure core performance with new “Bulldozer” architecture.
Get an extra burst of raw speed when you need it most with AMD Turbo CORE Technology.
Push your performance with tuning controls in the easy-to-use AMD OverDrive™ software1.

Do you think this process would suffice? And what Video card do you think would be good to get?

Thanks people

I'm in just as deep with SC in fact I cannot stop buying shit and I'm even going to gamescom to support the team because of the way they are doing stuff and interacting so well with the community.

But I'm glad Ego have finally got their shit together as it was getting boring as hell being treated like idiots. I'll be giving them a peace of my mind at the show and a congrats too of course. They really need to engage with us and get our support rather than ignore us like SC have done.

I think that's mainly a consequence of Deep Silver exerting influence over Egosoft.

Except DS does not do this with their other developers and if you were to ask DS they would say the secrecy was a decision of Egosoft's management team...

So no, I don't buy it for a second, Egosoft was keeping us in the dark during a rework of code starting two years ago.

Don't pre-order as soon as it pops up! I'll tell you why:

There MIGHT be a special / limited / collector's edition revealed LATER. I had this happen to me with, uhhh, I think it was Fallout: New Vegas.

I bought it as soon as it was up for pre-order, and then LATER they announced a really sweet collector's edition.

Steam actually takes your money when you pre-order (which nobody else does, lol) so you have to jump through hoops to get a refund if you want to order a special edition later.

As much as it will hurt to wait, I'm going to give it until 30 days before release. If they haven't shown a CE by then, they're probably not going to.

I want to give Egosoft more than $50 or $60 lousy bucks. I mean, they've worked on this for YEARS. Come on, guys, let's do a really awesome CE!! Give me a die-cast Albion Skunk. With removable drones. Smile
