Limited multiplayer

How awesome would it be to invite players to your universe or start a universe with a handful of friends where you work together (or against). X3 could host the universes and have them persistent and you can log in at any point.

I'm sure its been discussed many time but I'm just wondering why the awesome guys at Egosoft have not implemented some simple MP.

because its pretty complicated, time consuming and expensive to develop it

This is the kind of multiplayer that I want. No MMORPG crap, just invite a friend and play like if it was singleplayer, you just have an inteligent wingman.

Unfortunately, as has been discussed once or twice implementing any form of multiplayer is about as much work as MMO or whatever. Not gonna happen for X3. Not happening for XR at release, at least...

Also look up SMP on the forum.
Long dead now due to real life getting in the way. but we did expand it to the point that we each had our own corporation and even traded between us.

No promises yet,but if enough support comes our way, SMP might come back. :)

X3 multiplay, how would i do it

Strictly speaking multiplayer in X is very much impossible the way it works in other games, resources would get used up far too fast, station clutter would slow the game down to a crawl and unbeatable older players would smash noobs into oblivion with their mighty fleets, so why the tread, well there is another way that may just work, tournament style. So for example i have a nova that is an M3 fighter and i want to join online tournament, i can only compete against other X3 fighters or higher, in essence there would be categories from full scale fleet battles between well developed players down to small skirmishes between various M5. You could enter higher level with lower level ship if you want a challenge but not vice versa. But why would you even want this? Well short answer is challenge, as far as AI goes there are limitations, players are vastly superior in that regard, there are limits what you can learn when fighting AI, it is predictable, only way it can best you is by getting larger numbers in which case you just get larger ship, and after some time it becomes too easy, you have a large war machine and all AI ships become just flies to swat, it would be nice if you could face somebody of equal or higher skill than you in 1 on 1 fight.

Would love to see it. I understand deeply where X is and it's fanbase is coming from, i have been playing since X2.

In a X-universe ppl should be allowed their private sector(s), and be allowed to build their own empire, corp, pirate outfit. Give trading rights to friends for your private sectors (trading/passenger vessels acces only) so they can see your empire and be in AWE.

Basic resources are available in private space for production, can be traded in the on-line (race or pirate) controlled sectors (acces rights). Trading sectors acces is limited to shiptypes/ non-combat AI militairy guarding for immersive reasons.

rich source of PvE missions (coop-combat) for special resources wich can be traded in public sectors.

Sceptical about PvP combat focussed.

PvP encounters maybe in exploration scenarios, searching sectors for a lost ship /jettisoned cargo/rich astroids wich can be transported to your private sectors ??

A deathmatch mode would be nice though, ala Tie Fighter or Freespace. 1 sector, 1 ship each. Duke it out to the death :D

There was a Deathmatch Arena a few years ago.
I think the basic mod is still listed in s/m somewhere.
