FPS drop in battles - Might have corrected itself after some updates.

So, year ago I purchased TC + AP on Steam. That time I had old laptop: MSI GX 633 ( AMD Turion™ X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor 2,2Ghz / nVIDIA Geforce GT 130M DDR3 512MB VRAM / 4GB RAM). I was playing TC without many troubles with 10 days ingame time but I noticed overall slowdown due to that issue: as more as you play the worse performance is. But it wasnt a big deal.
Then I tried AP and after 15 hours of gameplay it was one extreme slideshow. I uninstalled X3 TC and AP because I knew that my lappy is not very powerful and I didnt want to be frustrated again.

But now I have quite beasty laptop: ASUS G74SX (Intel Core i7 2670QM 2,2GHz / overclocked NVIDIA GeForce GTX560M 3 GB GDDR5 / 12GB RAM)

Few days ago I get taste for X3 again so I started to play AP. I was playing for 15 hours I think (I was stucked at Teladi Stock exchange to grind some millions). When I reached my 100 million goal I started to do some missions to get enough reputation for Argon plot.
Then I started Argon plot and enter the sector where was a fight between argon fleet and 5 terran fighters :D. First what I noticed was huge FPS drop from 40+FPS to 20- FPS. But when Argons destroyed these 5 little Terran fighters my low FPS was gone. So after few hours of research I noticed that I can have hunderts of ships in sector without any big FPS loss, but as soon as 1 ship start fighting my FPS is phucked. This happens only in sectors where is a huge fleet. Same thing happens with my old lappy. No matter if Im playing with low or high graphic settings.

I dont see any reason why sould I had that big FPS drop with this laptop.
This happens only in AP, in TC I dont have any troubles with large fights at all.

Hello. A few issues from your DxDiag first. I assume the games are unmodified.

Install Win7 Service Pack 1 and any other outstanding OS updates.

You have Ffdshow and Haali codecs which are known bad news with X3. Use the Ffdshow Sticky above to disable it with X3 for both x3tc.exe and x3ap.exe. Haali is removed by uninstalling the application or codec pack (eg k-lite, CCCP, etc) that installs it as they will just reinstall it if you remove it manually.

Run the Steam verify gamefiles cache tool separately for X3TC and X3AP. This never hurts on having game issues and sometimes finds and corrects game installation or update problems.

Your cpu clockspeed is not great for this game although it should be enough. Make sure that any cpu throttling facilities on BIOS are disabled as the game .exe runs on one core only with the others idling or just running OS, drivers and services. The game core needs all the clockspeed it can use as the game is cpu-limited rather than gpu dependent.

So if I understand that correctly - this game is running only on 1 core ? My CPU will automatically overclock to 3 GHz if application requires more than 2,2 GHz. I think that should be enough for game. I wil test your advices as soon as I return
from work. Thank you.

Yes a turbo facility that increases cpu core clockspeed on demand is usually good but anything that limits cpu clockspeed such as a throttling facility can be bad. Example here.

So thats weird. I was trying same scene few times. First 2 times I had drop to 25 FPS but then nothing. I dont know thats weird. I dont have any throttling since Im using applcation called ThrottleStop made for i7 CPUs. I can see that all cores are working at 3 GHz. I dont see any throttling in games like Battlefield 3 , Witcher 2, Skyrim, Crysis 2 or GTA IV.

Well I guess I will play for few days and see. But for now It looks like its solved . I will report my experiences after few hours of gameplay with new DxDiag.
