(TC) Ship and weapon icons identification

Post by Taro8 » Mon, 19. Nov 12, 10:01

Hello. I would like for a help identifying ship class and weapon icons from Terran Conflict. I can never get ships right and I have completely no idea about the weapons.

I tried searching, but there was no info about what icon means what.

EDIT: Ship icons are done.

This is something that you will learn with time naturally. I suggest trying to spread out your memorization rather than trying to remember them all in one go. It will be a lot easier.
Many of these weapons you won't use until later on in the game. In fact, you don't need to know all of these until you plan on using the weapon, in which case you can just equip it and remember the symbol in the corner of the screen. Even I am still learning them. Here are the ones I'm pretty sure about

01) IRE
03) IBL
06) Wasp Missile
08) PAC
09) CIG
20) Thunderbolt Missile
23) ISR
27) Banshee Missile
34) Silkworm Missile
41) Hornet Missile
44) HEPT
50) Hammerhead Torpedo
51) Ion-D
52) PPC
62) Rapier Missile
65) PBG
73) Alpha Kyon
74) Repair Laser
80) Beta Kyon
81) EMPC
86) Tractor Beam
87) Gamma Kyon
These are much more important. You need to know what you're fighting

01) M5
02) M4/M4+
03) M3/M3+
04) TS/TP
05) M6/M6+
06) TL
07) M1
08) M2
09) Fighter Drone MkI/MkII
10) Station (only used on the minimap)
11) Mine (not common at all)
12) Astronaut (when you force pilots to eject)
13) Missile (you usually won't be manually targeting these as you'll probably have turrets on missile defense or MDM)
14) Advanced Satellite (I recommend buying some and putting them everywhere so you can see what's going on)
15) Navigational Satellite (Like AdvSats, but not as good)
16) Lasertower (stationary defense; just fly around them and you'll be fine)
17) Navigational Beacon (they appear in some sectors and point you towards a gate)
18) I have no idea. I can only guess TM since it's missing, but in my game TMs look like the TS/TP symbol but with more horizontal lines
19) Again, I have no idea. M8 is the only one that's missing, but they look like M6s with 2 horizontal lines in the triangle part
20) M7

Thanks!

This isnt just about learning this stuff, Im making an UI mod that replaces weapon icons with short names.

BTW: I managed to find a partial GUI guide in game files. It had info on almost all ship classes except for new ones introduced in TC (no. 18, 19, 20) these are the only ones Im missing.

EDIT: Now that I plan to make a GUI mod, I would like to ask: what would like to be color coded in weapon icons? I can use letter colors as well background to symbolize something, but what? Damage, size, speed what it's effective against?

Two of those last three aren't the TC ones though. The last one is the M7 symbol, but the other two aren't quite right. Are you playing TC? Or AP?

Sorry turns out those were modded ship icons. Here are no. 18, 19, 20 as they are in vanilla:

Many thanks!

This takes care of the ship icons. I put designations on anything I should look out (leaving out astronauts and such). While in flight the text isnt too visible, the additional class info looks really well with cockpit mod.

Now it's the weapon icons that are left.

EDIT:
18 TM, 19 M7, 20 M8.
Turns out it's 19. M8, 20. M7. I found info in one of the vanilla GUI files

Those three you reposted are TM, M7, and M8, in that order. Trust me, if you get those last two confused, you'll definitely regret it.

Not a very good mod if they gave M8s the M7 icon...

This. You could also, ya know, look at the ship you've targeted and if it has a fairly big sized box around it, it's an M7 :P

@ OP: I think your sources have long forgotten the vanilla game!

Notice I wrote:

Yeah, this is how they are marked in vanilla GUI_master (as TM, M8, M7, I shit you not :P). It's just a text beside, so in game it appears correctly. I will go with your identification.

There should be a guide for this. Even ingame files cant get this right  .

Anyway. Im currently redoing ship icons in order to rotate them 90 deg. so they wont be partially covered by letters. Looks pretty cool.

Still need help with weapons.

EDIT: Ok, I changed all ship icons, they lost the glow, but I think they are better now, more readable. Man I really like that target icon in cockpit mod, with my changes it's very useful.

So, could you give me a hand with weapons as well?

Ok, I managed to dig to the file that tells game what weapon uses what icon. I managed to get most of the weapons with this. However, since internal names are used I wasnt able to get all of them. Missile names in that file are completely nondescript (A,f, dmb and so on).

So I really need help with remaining weapon icons.

4 & 39 - These are matter/anti-matter Launcher, one of them is the experimental version, I dunno with one

32 & 81 - Same deal with experimental version, only for Electro-Magnetic Plasma Cannon

Look up the TMissile/TLaser with something like X3 Editor 2 (see the Scripts forum)
