Trade rank troubles.

I am trying to unlock the hub plot in X3TC but I don't have the necessary trade rank and I can't seem to increase it buy buying and selling stuff... Am I doing something wrong?

Use more sector/universal traders, and other automated traders, they will work for you in the background and slowly increase your trade rank.
