I think this may get pushed back but I could be wrong. They are a small team so do they have the resources to be playingh with updates?
Unless these guys can keep great secrets I would think they would be promoting their newest game by now unless its just not ready, and so the updates to XP to keep people happy.
I do hope I am wrong and that they show gameplay footage at gamescon, and announce this year, but not gonna be surprised if they dont.

What that says to me is that they have different members of the team working on different internal projects not strange in itself but one wonders why 100% of the team aren't working 100% on Rebirth?
Maybe Rebirth is mostly ready and the publisher is holding off a release over the summer holidays?  |
It's possible part of Rebirths development is ahead of another part, leaving some members of the team with a lack of work to do as they are waiting on others to complete various tasks. If this is the case letting them work on another X3:AP patch makes sense since they would otherwise be sitting twiddling their thumbs doing nothing.
Since an X3:AP patch is mostly just mission editor work I would suspect the programmers and artists are still busy on X:R and the mission editors are ahead of schedule or unable to make progress due to waiting on assets from the other teams.
But this is all pure speculation on my part I'm sure we will get a better idea of where things stand during Gamescon.... even if Egosoft are not there (since that in itself tells us it's going to be delayed again)

I'm pretty sure AP as a whole is developed and produced by a very small group of people. I'm not sure about any engine changes that came with AP, but certainly content wise, it could well even be made by a single person given the timespan between updates.
I should note that I'm not trying to knock Egosoft with that comment and I don't know how much "under the hood" stuff went into the AP releases.

Here, have some 2D. I'm no connoisseur of the male race but a snappy suit is ALWAYS a plus, he looks just fine in 2D... now if you want a game developer with depth and the "illusion" of mass, talk to this guy
[EDIT]: Wait, what the hell am I thinking?! Gabe Newell couldn't possibly exist in the THIRD dimension!

So, as I'm trying to point out. Its Not Egosoft thats giving us crap info. Its Deep Silver. Deep silver doesn't give to rats about putting out an ad campeign for a game, they feel doesn't have the potential to sell 5M copies world wide. it would cut to deep into ther profit margin.
Yet, they simply fail to undertand, they don't even have to devote much resources to ads for advertising. If the stuff they release.. Like trailers, and screenshots are awesome enough? Fans, and others will re-release it in an unprecdenented viral game Campeign.
That original Dead island trailer? That was absolutely fantastic even if the game pretty much blew when you actually play it. Why doesn't This game have that kind of awe inspiring trailer? That'll get people who have never played an X game, into the new game? |
You know, if they were smart, they would use some of the profitssssss from the big ("5M") titles to promote a lesser known title such as X: Rebirth. The simplest implication is that they don't have a lot of (if any) faith in the X series -sad face-
Of course we all like to rip into the evil faceless company that appears to be standing between us and our next space adventure, but maybe, just maybe they have a legitimate reason for withholding their love like a deadbeat parent... maybe

Nope. Companies are NEVER that smart. They'll be focusing on games that Scumbag Steve would play, like Call of Duty

As much as I'd like to see some indication of X Rebirth being 'aired' at Gamescon, and also some more added information apart from what has been posted by Egosoft here on this Forum, (the fact is we have had 'some' information), I'm kinda banking on this statement.....
"Release Date
All we can say at this point is that it will be in 2012. Stay tuned for more precise information.

Whether the game is advertised on ANY particular function or site imho is secondry to this statement.
Okay....okay.....the arguments for Egosoft's & Koch/Deepsilvers strategy on 'advertising' perplexes me also .....over the years this still seems peculiar to me.
I'm hoping that the statement above by Bernd holds true for 2012!
I've got a side bet with my wife though on whether it's my free bus pass this year that comes first, or X Rebirth
