Making a planet more than eye candy in future games

Well i recently read this old post where a guy suggested that AI can spawn massive fleets with weapons installed due to the fact it has a massive production on planets which you cant see. So i thought to myself, what if you could see it, this is how it wold work, first you would have to buy Atmospheric lift station(a very expensive station you would build around selected planet) this would be your base of operation for that planet, when you would dock at it you would get a planet surface divided into grids like sector map complete with cities, impassable terrain and AI factories, grids that are not impassable or taken could be payed to be surveyed, each grid would have a certain stats like for example Ore/Silicon deposits, fertility, potential to build one of several kinds of power plant(SPP would not work so well on planet surface i assume) from here everything would work just as it does in space, you would buy a factory and select a grid where to build it, and then you would either set it to send resources to your other factories on the planet, sell them to npc factories on the planet, or send them directly to your Atmo lift, when you could treat that resource as every other resource you produce. Since you never rely land on the surface there would be no real need to make any sort of new graphics, it would be like managing your stations OOS.

Since 'future games' means in Egosoft's case, X Rebirth, this topic more rightly belongs over in that forum. But since there are already threads dealing with that, I don't think moving this one over is appropriate. Feel free to discuss planetary landings in future games in the Rebirth forum.
