X3AP Game wont start - Sorted by system updates and clean-up.

Hey everyone, iv just reinstalled AP and now when i start it up it crashes instantly.

I used to have it working fine then i stopped playing for awhile, iv reinstalled it (clean install, no mods or anything) and it crashes. i dont even get to a splash screen.

iv also used that verfiy integerty of game cache thing but it didnt help

Hi,

The problem is in the KERNELBASE.dll with a stack overflow.

So could you please post a dxdiag as requested in the very first announcement on this forum so we can get some more details of your system.

Do you have any other programs open when you play AP?

As it could be one of them interfering with AP?

Hi,

Thanks for the dxdiag.

It does show that your graphics and sound drivers pre-date Windows 7 so they need updating.

The other item is that you have ffdshow and that needs configuring to not interfere with AP.

Avast could be interfering but I'd leave that as it is for now as I have Avast and it doesn't cause a problem on my pc although I am running XP.

Also update to Win7 x64 Service Pack 1 and all other outstanding Windows Updates.

You also have two audio devices on the go at the same time, your Nividia audio that comes with the graphics driver and an ancient RealTek. After all necessary updates, go into Device Manager and right-click and disable the audio device you do not use to turn off both it and its driver. Your Nivida audio driver is not only old but does not seem to have installed properly as there are zero entries in its settings where there should be values.

You also need to uninstall the application or codec pack (eg k-lite, CCCP, etc) that installed the Haali codecs (and probably Ffdshow too). Frankly getting rid of any codecs you are not using is a good thing.

After all this work, if you still have issues then run and post a new DxDiag please.

One more question: I know you said this was a clean vanilla install but had you ever had TC or AP 3rd Party mods/scripts previously and, if so, did you totally delete the game folders before you reinstalled?

ok updated nivida drivers again, installed all windows updates and disabled audio drivers. havnt done codecs yet but will get around to it.

And yes i used to have scripts etc but when i did a clean install i completely removed the X3 folders after uninstalling, so there shouldnt be any left in it from before.
