[X2: The Thread] Juggling Corvette & Scout

Post by khemeher » Mon, 16. Apr 12, 05:42

So I decided to try utilizing an Argon Centaur & Discoverer. Mostly this was just to experiment with different ships & such. I think it's really cool that you can jump into your scout & fly around, and then return to your corvette to hang out, blow up some stuff, etc.

Problem #1: How the heck do you save in larger ships? I haven't run across a salvage disk in X2 yet, and when I dock in one of the larger docks, it doesn't autosave. I seem to have to use one of my smaller ships to autosave.

Problem #2: Do you have to give your larger "mothership" an order, or can you just let it hang out in space? I tried this once, and when I came back my ship was gone. I reloaded, but I'm unclear on what I should do to avoid this happening in the future.

Problem #3: Can a Centaur dock with factories? I tried to pick up some silicon & GammA HEPT's with my scout & bring them back, but they won't fit.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Autosave works only, when you docked into the station (autosave not works if you docked into the ship).

You can see all your property - your ships and stations if press button "R".
If your ship disappear maybe because he was destroy by enemy ships.

Centaur or any other M6 class ship can dock only into the Equipment dock, Shipyard, Wharf - M6 class ship can't dock into the factories.

Yeah...that was a learning experience for me last night. I think the next time I leave the mothership, I'll set it to protect me or something so it does something other than slam into factories & get shot at.

I also discovered that although you can only "partially" dock in the Wharf & Equipment Dock, you can completely dock the M6 in the federal shipyards in Argon Prime - because this seems to be the only place in that section of Argon space where you can sell a capital ship.

I was having a problem up until I found this out, because I couldn't dock the frigging thing at the factory that made Gamma HEPT's in Three Worlds. So I had a capital ship with no front guns, an explorer that can dock but can't carry them, and a larger fighter that could get them, but no way to give them over. That's a face-palm of biblical proportions right there.

Thankfully I figured it out.

I'm starting to see the larger appeal of the game over time. Rather steep learning curve unless you are the type of person who does their homework rather than reacting to problems as they happen.

May I recommend a Harrier over the Discoverer? It has a far larger cargobay to lug stuff about, APACs and, most usefully, a 5MW shield, which lets it take a hit from Wasp missiles, which usually kill M5s.
Allergic to work.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

That's an excellent suggestion. On the other hand, it didn't take me long to figure out that a ship that was too small to carry decent landers, and too big to land itself would not be a suitable home base for my empire of doom.

Instead, I restarted and I'm going to stick with a humble, yet fully upgraded Nova Fighter until such time as I feel compelled to move into a Titan cruiser or some other suitable domicile. I'll leave the Corvettes for patrolling corporate holdings & escort duties.

I didn't like the color of the upholstery of the command chair anyway.
