I am very sorry for posting this, no really I am, but I just could no longer resist.

I first saw it on local BBC tv last night, on again to night where they named the 23 year old city trader. I can only find one link to the story, in the SUN! Sorry, but the BBC have run it twice.

My question to you all is: is this in serious bad taste and a pr disaster for all city traders? That considering the way things are going for the majority. Or is his over £ 200,000 splurge in a bar; in Liverpool; in one night, his just ( PART of ) reward for working hard and EARNING such a huge amount? Rolling Eyes

He spent £125,000 on one very large bottle of champers! Surprised

No, I am not motivated by jealousy in posting this. Yes I find this story obscene. Even if I was a billionaire, ( which I am not! ) I could not bring myself to do such a moronic and very public , act of greed! Rant

*edit* Heres another one, his name is Alex Hope.
http://www.juicefm.com/news/local/record-breaking-bar-bill-of-203k-at-liverpool-club-304/

*Edit2* Oh my goodness, he has his own website. Surprised
Full of himself and a complete ( edited ), or a role model for the youth of today? ( Oh its ok, the YOOF get greed already! )
http://www.alexhopefx.com/
His profile:

*Edit3* Ok self taught and up from the bottom, maybe he is a good rolemodel?

That kid reminds me of Snoopy Laughing

What I find annoying is that you can't beat the "poor" (23,4% pun intended Rolling Eyes ) bugger because he is too soft and sissy Rolling Eyes

P.S.Yes I'd beat the s*** out of Snoopy Razz

act of greed

I supose the bar owner should be hounded for chargeing so much for booze .

So pumping 200'000 into the pockets (minus bar owner cost) of a local business is evil .. If you say so .

It doesn't look like from the reports that he used the company he works for expense account to pay .

I guess he also didn't share .

Have to wonder which vinyard thinks thier swill is that good .

Did he tip Very Happy

Edit :
Was posted before your edit .

In a way RM, yes. My automatic response still stands in part. Wink

This is still an obscene display of greed, that will always be my automatic response and no amount of ' he's a good chap really ', will change that.

Thus my view of humans, drops yet another notch! Sad

@ Tracker: Evil? Maybe. Define evil. Obscene? Certainly IMO! So much for David Cameron's in it together speech? Rolling Eyes

@ Adrian: Laughing

The report I heard on the radio was that £18,000 was included as a service charge. I really hope everyone got their share and none of it was pocketed by the owner (who almost certainly made more out of the evening).

I don't get how buying a round of drinks, posh or otherwise, for friends and strangers is an act of greed. To my way of thinking what he did was more an act of insane generosity.

Would you prefer that he just "stick the money in his bank account" and get even richer?

Yes the BBC repoted a serice charge too when they showed the reciept. The charge was up front and part of the bill it seems, not optional. Smile

*edit* @ RM: not sure I guess. at least in part it stems from seeing how so many are struggling so much, through no fault of their own, to even feed their own families. Rub; wound and salt springs to mind? I will think on it. Thinking

( I won't even mention the truly poor parts of the world. )

*edit2* Just noticed your post tracker, you naughty person! That is not what I meant at all.

( sigh, am I that bad a comunicator? ah well back under the bridge for me! http://www.arfarfarf.com/troll/ a homage to me? Wink )

Granted, you can question whether anybody who gets paid a lot of money is worth it, but as long as that chap has paid his taxes why shouldn't he spend his money how he wants? That's a different question.

If he'd drunk the entire thing himself, now that would have been greedy Razz .

It's also possible that he gives a lot to charity. He might do, he might not, but it's his business. Why should he tell anybody else?

If it was on the bill as a service charge, it was optional.

I've only once been part of a group that refused to pay an included service charge in full. You could see the manager wasn't happy, but they didn't make an issue out of it. (They hadn't had their chicken delivery on that day and consequently a lot of the menu was off; whilst that was beyond their control, they kept offering alternatives and then coming back 10-20 minutes later to tell us that was off as well. I think some people ended up ordering three times.)

Just respouting (useing) terms used by ppl that are dead set against capitalism .
The same ppl that don't understand that it's capitalistic theory that ends up give ppl a pay check .

You are handed a piece of block steal . You machine it . Now you pass that peice to another person . You have added value to that piece by vurtue of chargeing for your time and work done . Sence you have charge a fee in money or trade , you have commited a capitalistic act .

What is not a capitalistic society ? One that allows for work tobe done without further compinsation other than food and water (example: Shanghaied sailors) and maybe a warm dry place to rest (at the extream).

I include in this ,the so called "Company Town" style situations .

I see no problem at all with what he did. He earnt his money, apparently he gives plenty to charity - Likely more in the last year or so than I'll manage to give in my entire life, so if he wants to waste it on overpriced drinks having a good time, then more luck to him.

I read this on the Metro this morning on my way to Sixth Form. I just laughed, what a waste of money. He quite clearly did it to try and make some friends Laughing
