Well let's agree that if nothing comes from Gamescon, then it's most likely a dead project.
BTW I *have* seen more than once companies or projects die without ANY good bye. It's sad really. Forums go on like insects on a corpse. Then one day either the domain expires, or mods go on with their lives and spam posts grow like jungle grows on Inca temples.
I even remember once, that a company (making a single project) with MANY loyal users, got bought by some big name. Initially they said they will go on with the project etc. Never happened. The old company workforce got into other projects (seemingly "relative" but nowhere near in fact) and users were left hanging.
Let's hope we are NOT close to any of those scenarios.
In EGOSOFT's defense (and in fact if the guys that FEED the project with euros read me - they are not but anyway), currently there is NO other serious "space odyssey" single player project on PC. THERE MUST be a market for that.

thats not the case for definate, im speculating that fact, i dont know what kind of finances EGOSOFT has, they may have more than any of us expect, and perhaps they can get by on that for far longer than we... well want them to  not that i want them to go bust just i want the game released. to be honest its common sense that the longer a game gets delayed the more likly for it to end up in financial turmoil... i wholely expect EGOSOFT to get Rebirth out before that happens, issue would be more for any further games after that, it would appear they have went beyond what they expected would be the development period, and obviously thats more wages and running costs than would have been present if they hit the release date which means more money spent and less money for profit.

yeh, but they aint EGOSOFT, they been the most loyal company to their fans ive ever known, they do read these forums, they do reply to the fans, and there have been a good few changes happen thats been a direct result of that. so i would be pretty surprised if that ever happened with EGOSOFT.

this i would agree with totally... or at least youd think that would be the case... i remember when you could go into a games shop and have a half dozen PC space games on the shelves that was released fairly recently. now a days they are all dumbed down space shoot'ems or "strategy" games thats no harder than going to the shop for a loaf of bread. the X series has been a real diamond in the rough, and why it hasn't seen far larger worldwide appeal is beyond my reasoning!!

another aspect to think of though... when you think about it the X Series has been shall we say, flawed, there are a lot of glitches on release, and they end up having more content and a better more complete game a yr or so down the line after updates...
this delay might be simply EGOSOFT having a new approach to Rebirth... wanting the game a far more finnished product on release so that they can hopefully get a bigger audience... it may actually make sense to delay a year and finish the game properly rather than spend 2 years after release updating and patching...

Actually that is pretty common, the EA forums for example, i rarely, ever, see an EA dev for that game post in that section.
Egosoft have the same sort of business model as a lot of other game development studios, including Fictional Games. Where they don't update that often, but when they do it tends to be big.
If you look at the news and updates on TC, there was hardly any until the end of development. You guys need to remember this is an entirely new engine, game and approach, a lot to tweak, fix and test. They aren't using the same engine before with upgrades. So development time will be longer. So that does mean more time between updates.
The project isn't dead, i agree egosoft should update us more often. However i also believe too much info upfront will also make the game less exciting when i go into it.

did make a post in the "Rebirth Release Date" thread page 16 saying they are still working on it. Would have been nice if he added a screenie too. But, oh well.

You might not have heard, but all the random forum members who have no connection to Egosoft have a RIGHT to information. They are all ENTITLED to receive information on THEIR OWN schedules, and any failing of their expectation MUST indicate something has gone horridly wrong, or Egosoft would not be violating the RIGHTS to information of forum members.
Additionally, other forum members are a bit daft, likely applying the principles of reverse psychology. I guess they assume that Egosoft is staffed by 8 year olds. By making outrageous claims that the new game will never be released, Egosoft will be 'tricked' into releasing some information. 
I suspect they would have more luck telling Egosoft that unless they release more information immediately, then they will be banned from watching cartoons on Saturday mornings.
