Honestly, I don't have any experience with either of them. Argon ships are generally good though, with their only weakness (and greatest strength) being that they're completely average in all areas. Personally, I would stick with the Heavy Centaur simply because I hate being restricted to docking at certain stations. Yes, you can dock a few personal fighters in a Cerberus, but it's a hassle IMO. Try to get the prototype version if you plan on sticking with your Heavy Centaur.

M7m
Yes the barrages are very effective too, for clearing Xenon sectors!
The M7M is however more effective in the hands of a Billionaire with complexes for producing all that ordnance and credits to buy and train a hold full of marines!
As for an M7 escort, I have more Shrikes than anything else!

Flails do a great job purging the sector of smaller vessels. For heavy targets, use a bomber or a capital ship. Bombers have vastly superior ordinance compared to the capital grade hammer torpedo, oddly enough. Capital ships will save you the expense of a huge complex.
For galaxy purging, be prepared to shell out half a billion credits building up a massive missile complex.
Despite its nerf, the Terran shadow missile remains obscenely powerful and effective at wide scale destruction. When they become available, go nuts.

I use a Cobra as my player ship more often than not. That thing will single handedly kill a full sector of capitals and fighters easily. But, you run through flails (or hammers if there are lots of capitals) like no tomorrow. I found 2 factories of each isnt nearly enough if you are actively using it, so try 4-5. I am building another 3 near my marine training ground in heavens assertion.
Edit: Stay away from the Minotaur. Way too slow, and the big capitals are faster than you meaning if you jump in too close to them you will either die or need to jump out.

The main player ships are the (M6s) Hyperion Vanguard, Vidar and Springblossom, and (M7s) Tiger, Panther and Shrike.
Each of them has a strength: The Hype's got decent weaponry selection, reasonable speed and 2 fighter bays, the Vidar's very maneuverable, has a huge main weapon battery and mounts M/AMLs (Ammo based, and fairly slow firing, so very efficient killers) and the Springblossom mounts PM/AMLs and PSSCs (Slightly weaker, but still some of the best weapons around) and moves faster than an M4.
For the M7s, it's mainly down to those 3 being very good at killing both fighters and capitals, the rest of the class are flak boats first and foremost. They've all got 4GJ of shielding, and the Panther and Shrike have fighter bays (20 and 8 spaces, respectively). The Tiger has the best weapon generator and mounts 12 IBLs, the Panther has a slightly inferior genny and mounts 10 (All in turrets), and the Shrike has a fairly awful genny and mounts 8, along with the Ammo based Gauss Cannon in it's side turrets, meaning it's got the best capacity for sustained firepower of the 3, Ammo based weaponry using far less energy than other types.

I wonder why so many dismiss the M7Ms as player ships? I can jump into a sector with 4-5 M1's and M2's, and 30 fighters, 10 M6's and 5 M7's and kill them all in 30 seconds or so. I do that in any other ship and I die a horrible death.
The biggest problem is that it makes the game too easy for the most part, and you can't dock at most stations. But for actual combat, nothing seems to compare, in my oppinion.

The thing about M7M's as player ships is that they're kind of boring. Enter sector, reload because you smashed into something, jump in again and then wipe out the sector without moving.
It's a bit of a snooze fest. Unless I'm doing boarding ops. Or fighting Kha'ak Corvettes. Then it's open season. (Seriously, if you're going to engage a Corvette the best thing to do is use Flail Missiles. Not even they can manage to shoot down 320 missiles.
For a player ship, most M6's are good. I like the Heavy Centaur Prototype (And personally utterly despise the normal HC.), either one of the Dragons, the Pirate Centaur and the Hydra. As far as M7's go I've had great fun with the Tiger, Panther and the Shrike. Though after using the Tiger and Shrike, the Panther took some getting used to.
The Brigantine is a perfect player M2. Firepower, speed (for an M2), and mid-grade shields, mean it works best in the hands of the player.
Then we have M1's. Normally, I like the fastest ship I can get, or failing that the most shields. Those go to the Raptor and Condor respectively. (Discounting Terran ships) However the most fun I've had with a carrier in TC has been flying a Galleon. Surprising as it is the Galleon is an awesome ship. It''s not particularly fast, but it's very, very agile. Scarily so it seems.
True, it does have M7 level firepower and energy bank, it's also much less of a target than most M7's, Griffon, and Carrack aside.

I'd go with a shrike, cause it has good shields, decent fighters, and can mount 4 GCs. Not sure if that holds true for AP. I never really liked the tiger as my personal ship, since i like having at least some shields to keep me alive, but it does have the virtue of being on of the rare ships that can kill a Q during OOS combat (at least in X3TC).

You'll die sooner in a shrike when encountering several enemy warships then in a tiger, believe me ;)kotorone1 wrote:I'd go with a shrike, cause it has good shields, decent fighters, and can mount 4 GCs. M6!
That is why my personal runabout is still an M6 despite a large empire to defend. I fly a Dragon early game, Hyperion when I board one and a Springy for fun diversion.

Re: M6!
this, of course it is a good idea to have a whole bunch of heavier ships, but for day to day flying around corvette's are the best class and I also like Howlands progression with the only difference that I start with Heavy DragonDavid Howland wrote:That is why my personal runabout is still an M6 despite a large empire to defend.
