[AP] Setting up a fleet/wing to pacify a Xenon sector permanently?

Post by Silverblade The Enchanter » Mon, 23. Jan 12, 00:53

Ok, I want to lock down a couple of Xenon sectors, to give the humble merchant types peace and quiet from the Xenos' damn mayhem! ;)
ie, the Xenon sectors NE of Eighteen Billion, and North of Grand Exchange (plus also Zyarths dominion which seems to have Xenon gating in all over the place?)

If I can keep a force in them indefinately, wiping out the xenon who'll always spawn, it may make travel through them for traders safer.

Now, I've already pacified half the galaxies pirate by making several mega weed/booze hubs: MONG THE UNIVERSE! :D
Next is the Xenon but no way short of the "iron fist" to keep them calm.

Currently I have

1) Laser tower hub, used to "ring" 20 to 50 laster towers in front of each xenon gate to keep them shut in

2) Have nine Griffon Sentinels (ah joys of prepatch cheapness, lol), fully kitted out but with no fighters in them except one
too easy to loose a fighter, I keep 1 griffon with fighters though for "rapid response" to any attacks on my stations etc and that does have fighters

I do have plenty of fighters but they're mostly parked in Akeelas Beacon for eventual need (falcon haulers for resupply of large ships, eclipses and Ventis for good tough durability and power)

and one Boreas with full photon cannons and incendiary bomb launchers/cluster flaks
(as said, pirates love me and I have a cluster flak hub)

also Kyoto almost finished arming it to the max, have 9 springblossoms but only 5 fully armed so far (one is personal ship, one is CLs trader to buy gear for the Kyoto and other capitol ships, two others are traders for hubs with high value cargo).
have sector/universe traders keeping Aldrin sector well supplied so evenutally the Kyoto will have 6 fully armed Springblossoms

Have hub making Point SIngularity and shockwave cannons for Kyoto and further Terran ships.

So, questions

3) If I use ammo based weapons, ie protoype Antimatter launchers for the Springblossoms, how will that work in Out of Sector combat now? as some folk say any fight uses 1 unit of ammo, so that would mean all such wepaons become useless for prolonged duration as it will quickly get used up? :(
where as, in sector, Matter antimatter launcher and gauss cannon ammo last for AGES! Energy bolt chain gun ammo doesn't last too long in sector though (usually my fighters have 2 EBCGs to eek out power, and my falcon haulers have 4 because of their lousy laser recharge rates)
thus I'd need to arm all springblossoms with just protoype shockwave cannons if ammo is used up so severely in OOS combat...ugh, take ages to gather enough if that's true

4) will dumping 100 laser cannons in one spot, with a bunch of satellites (to improve the laser towers' crappy sensor ranges), be a good distration/minefield in centre of sector?

5) what ships would be best for this?
Was thinking of say, a "wing" of a kyoto, with two or three Boreas (each with plenty of photon cannon and flaks), maybe a Tyr
ie 4 to 5 M2s fully equipped
or is it a waste/high risk of springblossoms of kyoto being destroyed?

6) is the "fleet" abilty of much practical use yet, ie, for this kind of thing?

The number of ships required to pacify a xenon sector is directly proportional to the amount of time you wish to pacify it for ;)

Ie - its a money pit operation with a very poor cost/benefit ratio.

If you are willing to sit in the sector forever, then pacifying a xenon sector is actually quite easy - about 4 M7Ms will do the job on a small sector, 8 in a larger on so long as they get regularly re-armed.

However OOS M7Ms seem completely useless.

what ships would be best for this?
the osaka, or anything with -atleast- 10 GJ. the boreas is undershielded for the task, and the kyoto is basically useless because the escort ships -will be docked to it-, thus the probability of the kyoto going after a N instead of the K or J or Q is insanely high, and its extremely overpriced.
Just saying it forward: I give everyone 2 posts to make good, in context posts(proper english, as always, is optional). After that I'm ignoring what you have to say in that thread that's directed to what we previously were talking about.

Oops! forgot other sector needing "pacified"
Black Hole Sun - Xenon Sector 472 - Thyn's Abyss

yeah it's going to be a permanent Out of Sector patrol/combat, just wish to leave them there.
plan is ot have 4 to 6 of these battleships, in a wing or set to "protect" a leader, and set to "patrol" a sector after I've went in to sector firsthand and cleaned it a bit for them to come in safely, then leave them there ever after

Catra
ok so that only leaves Terran ships to use: Tyr and Osaka, because the Teladi Phoenix can't mount any flak guns except in front/rear turrets which is pretty damn silly as Teladi invented flak guns (doh!) and the Megalodon is currently borked :/

Any word on use of ammo in Out of Sector combat?

Why would the Osaka go after smaller ships, don't get your reasoning, sorry :)

be a pain if can only use Terran ships, sigh hope they fix the Megalodon

price isn't an object, it's time/effort that is

just want to for fun reasons mostly, clamp down on the Xenon

and thanks for the replies, you two :)

I dont think you have to give ships any special command to hold a sector, the xenon will happily fly into your ships to their doom. Just leave them with the "attack enemies" command works too.

Just watch the sector when it respawns, if your ship gets owned, send in a bigger ship next time :)

I like to send captured ships if I want to stop xenon spawning, like the yaki akuma or tyr.
Other ships like M7Ms and bombers are way better to use for clearing a sector out.

Did they fix the ammo bug in AP? There was that funky bug where energy weapons wouldn't fire in combination with ammo based weapons.
Duke's Buccaneers... I hate you so much... I am sooo demolishing your HQ when our business is finished....
