There are three ways this could go (from the way I see it):

1) EGOSOFT will announce the release date once it's mostly done/ done.

2) EGOSOFT will announce the release date at Gamescom 2012

3) < Laughing I don't know, whatever else is supposed to be here. >

I just got this email regarding my preorder of Rebirth:

Quote:
Unfortunately our supplier did advise us late Friday that they are no longer releasing X Rebirth here in NZ and are unsure if this game will be releasing at all Sad

Please let us know if there is another product you would like instead... or if you would like to have this item cancelled.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused -- we hope we can be of better service to you in the future.

Kind Regards,

Customer Service

They had been sitting on a release date of July 6, though it has been clear for some time that was never going to happen.. interesting that they just gave up.

Hmm. That's not a good sign. Still though, we're getting new screenshots and I can't imagine Deep Silver telling a retailer that they're unsure if it will ever come out. That's just not something publishers do.

It was the supplier that said they are unsure.. not Deep Silver. I dont know who the supplier is, and what they're basing their comments on, just sharing what I was told.
I'm sure the game will still come out (eventually), and I guess I'll just have to get it on steam now (NZ internet has data caps which is why I preferred the retail version in the first place)

Just seems like if they wernt being so tight-lipped about their current state of development, then suppliers and retailers wouldnt be sending out these sorts of messages to customers.

An ensuing debate on national download caps and speeds has been moved in entirety to here where that topic should be continued.

Pharaoh ... let my people go!

I try to not even think about this game. However when it pops back into my head I am instantly at a place where excitement for release is a double edged sword.

Everyone on here would love for it to be released yesterday. We are in that prison where it is both exciting to know that a game with this history is getting a face lift and will be playable in our lifetime BUT!! the anticipation is killer.

The first thing I do when it does pop into my head is check for any new news, trailers, interviews, but mainly for a release date.

Until then I will continue in my struggle in just keeping it out of my mind as much as possible. I want my oompa loompa now, but since I can't I just try to stay out of the chocolate factory.

Well that is most likely an improvement ... but still a placeholder.

Yes it's a placeholder.... But it's seeming more and more like it's correct as we edge closer to 4th quarter 2012.

But hey, minus a few of us, AP was a week hype/release!

Christmas (and my weeklong vacation) wouldn't be a bad release date.

AP release was an add-on release. XR is a brand new game. It does not work that way (surprise release that is)

I only got into X after the TC release, but I was under the impression from what people said that TC was also a surprise release? Please correct me if I'm wrong~

They went silent and released it 2 months later, in October I think.

No, TC was not a surprise release. It was originally titled X2 Return, but then it was canned in favor of a new engine, and the new game is named X3TC.

[EDI] Scrub all that. I got X3R and X3TC mixed up, it's been a long time. However, the point still stands: there has never been a surprise release before AP.
