because its a European developer and a European publisher.

The simple answer is habit, I'm afraid. But that little post-war fact is changing rapidly and its pace shows no hint of lessening. America ain't America any more. Rather like its parent, the Sun Never Sets, if something cannot go on forever, it will stop. |
I Totally agree Cycrow, Release of game should be release Globally at same time. Well its good job the egosoft are just across our waters and not USA based cycrow.

So, you know, it's not that I am American that I want everything released here first, but two things:
1) Localization (or Localisation if you are international...) of dialogue wav files is very much a separate process from the actual game development and is very easy to do in parallel with the game development once you have the script done. On "Far Gate" we had the English and French ready to go at release and this was followed in short order by Italian and German. (I think it was less than a week). With only slightly more resources, we could have had it all done at launch. We released in Europe first because our publisher was French, but the English version was done at the same time.
2) With digital distribution services like Steam widely available now to developers, there really isn't any excuse not to release globally IF the localization is already done and IF the game is actually ready for release (in any language).
The only other reasons I could see for a staggered release nowadays would be to enlist the first purchasers as "paying beta testers" who would find the bugs not found by the developer, so that they can update the game before a full blown global release... or if the legal paperwork for international sales and contracts isn't finished at launch. (Copyrights, distribution agreements, etc.)
Personally, I am so excited about this game, I would gladly sign up as a beta tester, and wouldn't mind getting a slightly buggy version if I could buy it on release day.

The two latest X-Games (X3TC/X3AP) were already released globally on Steam on the same day. On release there were English, German and French localisations available in text and audio form and Italian just as text.

And right there is the answer. Sales and distribution across international lines is far more of a pain in the ass than most people can imagine. It can be, and often is, exceedingly frustrating and drawn out.

Their is only one answer to that Question, (" TBA" ).
And that's how its going to be until its official from Egosoft.
So keep a eye on the News From Egosoft for the announcement !
Until its been Officially announced from Egosoft, its just rumours.

Well after checking the retailers again, it seems like everyone is TBA or Feb 15th '13

Yeah, this would make sense.
I think Egosoft is probably straddling the precarious line between continually breaking promises on release date and generating negative reaction from fans (Diablo III, anyone?), or putting out too much information too quickly and risking pre-release content not appearing in the finished game (this happens a lot, at least it did on our game), as opposed to getting the game out too quickly, and risking a backlash from having released a "beta quality" product.
What really mystifies me is why no "beta" has been announced.
There are several models for beta testing:
- Closed Beta
- Open Beta
- Paid entry
- Discount on final product
- Free final product
Since X3 is already a "niche" product, open, discount and free product betas are probably out of the question, but I certainly would welcome a closed/paid beta period for the following reasons:
1) I would pay to get a chance to test drive the game
2) I would be able to help make it a more stable/better game
3) We'd get to play it sooner
The company (might) benefit from this period by:
1) Having a more stable final product
2) Gaining useful feedback on the end product while still in development
3) Generating some additional immediate income from the project and
4) Building up hype for the product (assuming the beta product has a lot of promise)
Just some food for thought...

To be honest I thought that the reason ES are using steam was for a different type of beta testing that ES have used before, perhaps using that steam workshop or something. Deepsilver appear to want to keep their investment under wraps though so I dunno.
Mind until I see a lot more of Xenon Slayer on the forum I'm assuming that mission content is still being added to the game, and thus a long way off release.

Yeah, I wasn't part of any of the previous betas, so there you go.
Also, you're right about protecting the investment.
There are lots of reasons for keeping things under wrap:
1) Surprise! After all, this is an exploration game
2) Completeness of the game
3) Excitement on release
4) Bragging rights for the first players to master the game
5) Keeping everyone on a level playing field for #4
I'll have to take a look at steam workshop....

I just found this re-release ad online:
http://www.gameware.at/info/space/X+Rebirth
- March 15th, 2013 -
Can anyone confirm if this is an actual estimated release date or just a "wild ass guess"?
I'll be happy with the former rather than the latter because we'll at least have a solid date that is a "goal" rather than a "guess".
Thanks!

Everything that is not confirmed by Egosoft or Deep Silver reagarding Release Date is just a wild guess.

That's def a guess. There's about 4 or 5 dates out there right now where retailers are guessing and trying to get your pre-order for $80+ then they make money when this game comes out for probably $40 or $50.

Didnt Bernd say that Rebirth WILL be out in 2012,i really hope it will. But then again time is really moving on this year and still no confirmed release date, gameplay video or any word about open or closed beta.IMHO thing,s isnt looking good for a release this year. Will be very disappointed if it isnt released this year
