X3AP - Can't get any custom ships to load in to the game
Hi all, hoping someone can help me out here. I've been trying to get back into the X games with the latest being Albion Prelude. I used to use lots of mods and scripts when I played Reunion and TC but for some reason I cannot get any custom XSP ships installed and working in AP no matter what I do. I am using Cycrow's latest plugin manager beta (v13 I think) and it says they are in the game but I cannot use any.
I have even tried using the latest cheat script to spawn any custom ships but they are not visible in any of the lists.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance

Greetings,
As far as I know, XSPs can only be added to the game through the Plugin Manager which means you should post/look there for a solution.
X3AP handles things a little bit differently. Because X3AP shares files with X3TC, when modding ships, some changes have to be made to the X3AP folder while others made to the parent X3TC folder. You may have to add the ship to X3TC but change the Tships in X3AP.
EX: In order to change the location of a cockpit in X3AP, I had to make the change in X3TC. Making the change directly in X3AP was ignored because it was a vanilla ship.
Have a nice day!

Thanks for the help. I use the latest beta of plugin manager and I've tried importing the XSP files into TC and AP using the plugin manager but neither make any difference to AP, all I get are different loading screens (such as the one for the confederation wraith from Wing Commander) but I still cannot find the ships or even spawn them using the cheat console.
I don't know what else to do

the fact your getting the loading screens would indicate that at least they are getting installed.
which game are you trying to get them to work for ?
does the plugin manager correctly display the game and directory ?
have you remembered to close the plugin manager before launching the game (or using the launch game option in the plugin manager which closes it automatically)

That's what I thought. I am trying to get them working with Albion Prelude as I have used the ships previously with Terran Conflict and the game title and directories show correctly in Plugin Manager, other scripts I use are installed and working correctly through the plugin manager. I always use the plugin manager's launch game option to load the game, I do everything the same way I did with TC but just cannot see the ships

Yes I've tried using the cheat script to spawn the ships. I get a few entries like those you mentioned and also a few saying unknown or something similar to that but there are a few of the readtext entries for definite

sounds like the ships are in game fine, but the text files are not loaded.
u could try going into the script editor and manually loading the setup file
setup.cycrow.pmanager
the problem is either the text file isn't being loaded, or the scripts have not been installed correctly
if the script is not there then its the later. Which is something im still trying to reproduce so i can fix it

I think this is the same problem I'm currently having. Synapt commented on it here http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... start=1035 and found a way to work around it. However, it's rather complicated and beyond what I can do. I've pm'ed him to see if there is an easier solution.
The PM seems to be going crazy on my xsp's. I've gotten some customized ships to load correctly in the previous beta version, but not the new stable release. Now most ships are model-less. The batedora and my modified version are both model-less, but the unmodified starviper from the xsp database (author: Arachno) seems to work.
I could understand if the problem only applied to ships I've customized, but the fact that some original xsp's don't load right is odd. Especially ones that I've used before. I don't know if it has something to do with where the data are stored for TC/AP that's confusing where the model is located. Hopefully Cycrow or someone can figure this out because it is beyond me.
Cheers

its because the plugin manager does not pack the ships xsp into the cat dat file correctly. it breaks it..... Maybe someone will notice and fix that application (yes sirs this is 1.41)
Go to your x3tc\addons folder and delete all cat dat files added for ships, if your a fool and have no idea then delete all BUT 01 and 02 in the cat/dat files... AP will then load fine. Try to add the ships in again and it flips out. Not sure why, real weird.

I've actually given up trying to put custom ships into the game, I never had any problems like this with TC and Reunion, AP is just a complete pain in the a$$e to customize.
How can I edit ships that are already in the game? Is there an app that allows for that without screwing the game up? I'm fed up of having to download it all again from Steam

Well, I finally managed to get a custom ship working, used the Ship Creator package to import the dat, cat and xml files for the Normandy (from Mass Effect) and created a .XSP file that worked. I was really chuffed and played the game for hours.
Now, I have come to play the game again and it won't even bloody open!!! What's going on with this game? The main point of it is it's ability to be customised and all it does it break when you do!
But why would it work so well, then break the next time I try loading it?
