That is one huge deck right enough.
So huge in fact it seems almost bigger than the rest of the ship. |
It makes a certain amount of sense considering how a modern-day aircraft carrier consists largely of the flight deck and internal hangar space.
Also, in my screenshot the proportions of the ship are exaggerated by the perspective. From videos it looks like the hangar only takes up about 1/3 (maybe 1/2) of the length of the hull.

This is one hell of a repair ship.
Anyways... dedicated player ship/player ship-sized ship landing pads?

A boring drone control center? I wonder what will happen if you park your ship in Xenon space and you control a drone someplace else.

Ignoring the skunk, there is another shot of that ship showing lots of cool ships launching from it.
Just a damn shame you won't get to fly any of them.
I also don't like its design too easy for someone to fire a beluga torpedo into your hanger bay.

Well, Im not an X-Games fan orso, I only played X3:TC & I only started like started 1 and a half year ago but I think only having 1 ship is a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY bad idea.
I myself focus more on the "Action" part of the game, Since I dont understand how to make them stations & Build my own things... Im like a new player so to say, And the thing that I most liked was the ships of X3:TC.
I always saw my ship & Thought it was cool, And then passed next to other ships that were atleast 1000 times larger than mine & Just stood there like OMFGGAWWHHH<3
Thats my reaction when I changed from my Sabre to a Susanowa (Raider) & Then from a Susanowa to a Springblossom.
I totally flipped out when I had just bought the Springblossom & By mistake undocked with the Susanowa & Just saw that HUGE thing that I had bought
Anyways... Having 1 ship really makes me think right now like: Soo, What will I work for? Some drones that I can just control & Then die?
All I think of is just parking in some hidden corner on the section or inbetween the station's holes & Taking out my drone to do everything without the fear of dying or anything...
Thats a change that really makes me think if X:R will be worth it :\
Unless the ship is "modular" and you can really change it ALOOT to the point that it can be considered another ship I see this decision as a very bad one.
I like the other features & I certainly LOVE the fact that you can destroy little pieces of ships instead of just having a HP Bar for the whole thing (Hopefully its like that with non capital ships too?) but this one just kills my buzz.
Anyways, I didnt really research much on X:R or the ship itself, As I said Im not a BIG fan, I just liked X3:TC & Wanna play the next installment butyeah, This is really making me consider if its really gonna be as enjoyable as other X games...
Wheres my goal if I cant buy a new ship? Get drones? Might be the same but IDK, Really depends on the gameplay itself here.
-
REAALLY ontopic: I think the same as most peeps here, I think its gonna be either a M6 sized ship.
But Im leaning agaisnt M6 coz theyre still pretty damn small compared to M1s & Stuff, And theyre also BIG compared to the smaller M3s & Such.
In an M3 you really dont feel big at all, While on a M6 you DO see the small ships & Also the big ones, Youre kinda inbetween & Like youre only gonna have THAT ship I guess you wouldent wanna stay the smallest forever since you cant change ship so I guess its gonna be M6 sized.
(Maybe a bit bigger though since it has hangars but it still needs to be agile enough to be enjoyable)
Besides, Im guessing the drones wont be THAT small, Since they will be the "Ships" of X:R (Im guessing theyll be M3/M4 sized? It would suck if they were as small as X3:TC ones, REALLY suck), So your ship has to be pretty big too...

Hmm... it would probably be possible to make the Player Ship modular enough to change "classes". Like you choose a "Base" module of some sort, for example one fit for Fighting, which is more suited for offensive modules. Or a Freighter one, with increased cargo and other stuff... or even a reconnaissance one. Where you can apply special modules to find fancy stuff that you otherwise wouldn't be able to find.
Well, I don't really expect it to be like that... and I'm not sure if it would work well anyway.
Oh and... I hope we can do something about the look, just in case. xD

MAY CONTAIN A BIT OF A SPOILER!
Based on this pic http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/screenshots/x_rebirth_screen_014.jpg the cockpit windows is at absolute minimum 2m across, most likely about 3m... That in relation to the exterior pic http://www.egosoft.com//img/content_x_rebirth_quote.gif as well as the cockpit view display showing what seems like shield status gives us a ship about 10m wide and 20m long? Even when you take out some space for hull etc to get the internal capacity the ship should have the internal size of two big apartments an the exterior size is as I said roughly 10x20 and should let you guys figure out what "old class" that would mean...
The landing pads in vids etc seem very big actually, even if the ship was 50% larger it should still easily be able to land on them as far as I can tell? |
Wait... so that ship is the Player Ship? If so, I got to say it's kinda... ugly. |
Kinda isn't the word I'd choose.

Ego, what have you done? For me acquiring new ships to pilot was the most fun part of this series and you have taken this away. Why?
With one foul swoop you taken Rebirt from a must have on release date game to a 'wait and read player reveiew' game.
Please reconsider.

Tex; Well if that's not the player ship then why would they put it in http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/info_en.php like it's pretty damn important? Also the monitor in the cockpit shows what I figure is shield status of that ship type in great detail. (BEAUTIFUL BTW) Hard to get much more certain...
That said, I didn't visually like the design either but I think I know what they're getting at and it's a very clever move, you'll either figure it out or realise it while playing.... |
it looks like early terran ship hmmm...
it could very well be the gunner i mean non of the sips have stayed witht eh same look have they

I'd like it M6/M7 but the problem is that we know can dock on a capital ship.
Unless it docks externally, Aran style, or the capital ships are vastly bigger I don't see it. |
Any M6 can fit inside of any M2. The hard part is getting it from the outside of the destroyer to the inside of the destroyer.
That shouldn't be a problem in Rebirth now that hangars encompass the entire width and height of the ship. |
oh my that ship looks lovely!!
thats totaly how i see ships looking

The Albion is definitely the ship on the bottom right being approached by
the ship with the big bay and the blue light coming out.
We have piccies of the Albion and it matches them.
The blue light makes me wonder if it is actually attempting to capture
the player ship with some sort of tractor beam.
It reminds me of that James Bond film where the front of this giant ship
opens up like a pair of jaws and captures submarines. Unfortunately I
can't remember the name. It might have been "The Spy Who Loved Me"

Actually I hope it's a repair ship or some kind of ultility ship. Because if that's the amount of fire power a combat ship have then it's rather disapointing.

Maybe, maybe not...
...Looks like front-side turret with 2 slots, mid-side turret with 2 slots and rear turret with possibly 4, add another 2 parallel turrets on the other side and a main forward facing set of 4 and thats 16 guns, as opposed to an average of 20 for Carriers in X3TC. With the possibility that those side turrets could be upgraded should the player wish...
It's hard to tell

Do you realize this picture is completely made up from different screenshots ? the blue light is coming from XR title as seen in the trailer.
