Until we get something official from Ego or DS all those release dates should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

I phoned Deepsilver UK about 10 minutes ago and asked the person that answered the phone when X Rebirth is due for release and he told me they have it down as a 2013 release but the date is not set in stone.

And neither is this statement.
If Ego/DS is meant to release X:Rebith as a surprise release or planning to reveal the release date on Gamescom I'm pretty sure there's only a handfull of people knowing about it, and that doesnt include the person you talked to, unless you can confirm to me it was a person responsable for the release itself.
And even if they dont plan a surprise release I'm still pretty sure they dont run around and tell the whole company about a release period, especially not the people that working in public relations.
I'm quite sure they want the release/release news to go thru the proper channels.
So your phone call to DS is a little vague imo, and so is he's answer.

Pssst!....I've just heard that an Egosoft Logo advertising the game, and release date, has been placed on one of the panels on the Mars Curiosity Rover. It's taken most of the funds out of the Egosoft piggy bank to do this, but in my opinion it's been a shrewd bit of advertising.
