I love playing the X3 games but there is one thing that annoys me. When you click on 'property' and then 'ships' you get a list of ships and satellites altogether. If you try and put a satellite in most places as I do, it means you have to search through the list to find your ships.
I hope the makers of Rebirth will have the sense to put a property list just for ships, and then another one for satellites.

No I didn't know that, what do I have to do?
Thanks for the info.

Go to property, then the options tab on the far left and set "show sats" to no.

I'm embarrassed to say I never knew this...so thanks for clearing that up for me as well as the OP.

On a related not it would be nice to have control of how ships/sats/stations show up in sector maps. I hate having to scroll all the way down a list of 100 Xenon Ns and Ms to see the loot dropped from a recently blown J.

Page Down a few times gets you right to the loot.
One trick I came up with for my CLS training fleet was a combination of hiding them and keeping them in a wing. I didn't want to see my 10 Discoverer ships with their training/trained CLS pilots but I also needed access to them to swap their pilots out without having to constantly change the visible settings. Come to think of it, this is actually a lot more work, but seems more organized.
So what you do is put them all in a wing then hide them. They won't appear on the properties page but they will show up in the wing page. Then to switch one you just open the wing, find the ship, access the ship, move the pilot, set it training again, put it back in the wing and done.

Ever try the "Temporarily remove from wing" option? It'll eliminate the last step where you put them back in the wing. Once you're done they automatically go back to the wing after about 5 minutes.
