The system specs have yet to be announced. Other than the confirmation on multi core use, not much else has been said.

Let's play, "Beat the mod".

Meanwhile, if history is anything to go by the new X game will choke the latest and greatest systems at the time of release.

A realistic guess could be ..

Minimum
2ghz Dual Core Processor
2GB RAM
Windows XP
Shader Model 3 (DX9) enabled Video Card

Recommended
Any Quad Core Processor
4GB Ram
Windows XP/Vista/7
Shader Model 3 (DX9) enabled Video Card (Radeon 5770+ , Geforce 285 GTX+)

Developers these days tend to recommend quad cores for their games, and pretty much all games require a multi core processor (oldies but goodies excluded).

System Specs arent so specific about anything at all.

I have 4GB of memory then what? They are running at 533mhz coz the maximum capacity that my motherboard can handle.

With our ever growing empires amond the players there is no way to say.
"ahh your rig will be ok"

My VGA xfx HD4670 running at 30% max with reunion still the game is at 20fps maximum.

edit
Yea, i forgot to say i have huge empire.... ;p
X to X3 is MENU SUPERIOR!
I think Egosoft has already worked out our doom, because Xenon AI will reach the stars! :D

No one wants single player games any more. If you aren't making an MMO, you aren't cool.

This was answered before, but I think the answer was buried deep in the original announcement thread and wasn't repeated in the new one. So here it is again: we won't be announcing full system requirements until much nearer to release. ;)

To be honest judging by the graphics tech that we've seen I'd say that a current gen mid-budget gaming rig would be able to play X Rebirth at high settings and 30fps.

In terms of parts I'd look into:

at least:
i5 2500k (quad core and possible to overclock)
8Gb RAM
GTX560Ti (MSI Twin-Frozr models are good overclockers)

SSD will improve your loading times (helped a lot for my X3TC installation but with the reduced numbers of sectors in Rebirth might not be so important?)

Oh well. PJ seems to have missed this one (for now).

So here's my 2 pennies worth...

Recent report says ships and stations will be bigger than before and have more polygons.
You'll also be able to fly in planetary atmospheres.

So my guess is FPS will take a dive again. :(

Aside from multi-core support, the only other thing that's been announced is that it'll be a DirectX 9 game.

WHAT!? It doesn't have...errr... hmmm.... actually, this game wouldn't be helped all that much by DX10 or 11, would it?

I wonder if a game like this would do better with more cores or faster cores?

Processing power of the CPU has often been the limiting factor in the X games, particularly since Reunion.

TC even causes i7's to crawl sometimes :!:
