Hey, sorry if this mod has already been done and my search skills just suck.

I was wondering how difficult, if possible at all, it would be to do a mod which allows the player to start an "airline"? Effectively, you buy a TP class ship, instruct a pilot (as you do with sector/universe trader) and the select a destination. The pilot will then fly to that station, land, offload its passengers, wait for an hour or so then return with new passengers.

The number of passenger your pilot picks up depends on several factors, say:

(a) your standing with the race/owner of the station you're shuttling to/from.
(b) the price you set for tickets (maybe in the commands menu)
(c) the quality of the ship ... you could take your TP to an equipment dock where you can install mod specific upgrades such as 'climate control, on-board entertainment and first class cabins'. The more you install, the more people will board your ship and the higher the price you could set.

I've had a go at REALLY basic modding a couple of years back, but nothing involving advanced scripting which something like this would need. It'd be even cooler to see Egosoft incorporate this into the next game. Wink

Got this idea during top gear on Sunday. Scum class for the Paranid obviously.

A script of that sort is released as preview version by Lucike in the German board, but there is already an English language file in it. It's name is Personenbeförderung und Reiseveranstalter (meaning something like passenger transporter and travel agent).

It consists of two parts. Taxi service insector (M5/M4, any stations) and intersector line service (TP, trading stations). The script works already very well for me.

It includes sector depending and race depending ratings for your company which affects the amount of passengers. So in the beginning, there won't be that much passenger, but as better your ratings get, the more passengers you'll have. Even the amount of planets and stations, and also the Security Level of a sector affects the amount of passengers too.

But as typical for Lucike, you'll have to train your taxi pilots first, before they can be used as liner pilots. Also, a liner route shouldn't need longer than 2 ingame hours, else your ratings will start to drop.

For later versions Lucike also plans to integrate TL's as luxury cruisers, but no detailed information about that yet.

thanks a lot for letting me know about this. I'm going to install that as soon as I can. Looks perfect. I really hope egosoft incorporate this into the new game. I think that taxi's would lend themselves perfectly to their game considering the traffic jams you can see in the trailer.

Wow! I found someone that is using the Passenger transport and travel service script. I have it installed but do not see the menu option to start my taxi (M5) service to start so that the pilot can be trained. I've been sitting at Home of Light trading station for days now, with no passengers to transport. What would you think I'm doing wrong?

I'm sort of retired from supporting Lucikes scripts as I'm not playing X³:TC for quite a while now and my knowlege is sort of outdated. But where I'm able to, I still try to help things get sorted out. Also I'm sure, there are enough other players - especially in Lucike's own forum, don't be afraid that it's a German one, most of us German speaking peoples even talk English too Wink - beeing able to help you all too.

Well thats a good job Saetan, because my German was never very good and it has been a lot of years since I learned what little I did. Indeed my wife says I struggle with my native language; which incidently is allegedly English. Embarassed

Edit: Saetan first question before I instal. I notice the link to the download on the forum has expired. The link you provided above is labeled as a beta. Therefore the question is: is the mod in fact stable and is it ok with AP? ( Indeed what about general compatability with other mods? )

You know Lucike? If so, answer your question by yourself. Wink

Ok, without joking: Last time I played ... guess it's more than half a year in the meanwhile ... I remeber the script had bugs which got sorted out rapidetly after telling Lucike. Afterwards I used M5 taxis and TP liners without any problems.

In the meanwhile, TL luxury cruisers got added to the script, but I never used them as that happend after my "retirement". Anyway I fully trust Lucike and his work, so even if it's labeled as beta, I would say it can be seen as stable ... heck, it's no alpha anymore.

For Lucike beta means something like: "There are still features missing, which have to be included before being 'final'. But have a lot of fun with it already."
