It seemed like a good idea at the time.......

The other night I built myself a Hammer/Flail Production complex

Ore Mine L
3 x Hammer fab
3 x Flail fab
3 x M Cahoona bakery
3 x M Cattle ranch

I looked though an asteroid guide til I found a suitable asteroid in a sector with a Military Base, so i had a place to train marines/buy boarding pods and build missiles all in one sector.......Eighteen Billion...

Upon completion of the complex, I realised eighteen billion borders a Xenon sector, yet throughout the whole night of complex building (I am a bit slow) I saw no Xenon ships.

Am I setting myself up for future heartache as a lone Q wanders through and tears up my complex and the Titan with 24xPPC 8XFFA that I then left guarding it on realisation of where it was.......

I have a save from just before I started building, but I do not wish to lose a whole evenings work!

18billion seems to be fairly quiet from what I've seen. Tho yes, you want Q proof defenses in place.

Also, did you use a calculator to make that plex? The numbers seem off..

That side of 347 should(!) be relatively safe, don't worry too much ;)

A Phoenix or a Boreas might be better there. The Titan's shields are on the edge - it's not frequent, but possible that a Q patrol roasts it OOS.

Set it 'defend position' on the gate.

I put it on defend position with the centre being the hub of my complex, is it better to have it just hold the gate directly?

IMO to hold the gate is better. This way the whole sector (with the freighters too) will be protected, and there will be less chance that a Q sneaks through the blockade.

I have a Boreas for every Xenon gate, and I had no TS Qed for two (game) days now.

I set up a Terran weapons complex in the unknown sector 2 next to Aldrin... the Xenon traffic is terrible, yet my complex was rarely attacked.

Counting that:
1) it takes time to destroy a complex, and you get an early warning
2) you can afford missile frigates / bombers by this time

Any attacking Q is quickly dealt with.

I have never seen any significant Xenon ships coming into 18 Billion from Xenon 347, just a few fighters passing through on their way to that Xenon sector. Clearing that or other Xenon sectors might stir things up as replacements reposition, though that seems much less of an issue in TC compared with Reunion.

I don't think I've ever seen a Q in Eighteen Billion, even during a Xenon invasion for the Military Outpost.

Even if the Xenon do come through, they won't attack your complex OOS.

I once had a spare crystal fab from a complex project which I set up in X534, and survived for a good few hours until I came into the sector. I put the resource buying prices to max and watched the stupid traders come to the station and get pwnt by the Xenon.

At least, it was like that until patch ~2.5 - haven't tried it since.
Allergic to work.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

Set your titan to defend position that would cover your complex (at least partially if it is big). This way you won't be attracting attention of Qs that are just passing by.
