EGOSOFT Lead Artist Alex Preuss at DortCon this April

Post by Xenon_Slayer »

Alexander Preuss, Lead Artist and Art Director at EGOSOFT will be guest of honour at this years Dortmunder Science Fiction Convention "DortCon".

DortCon will be held in Dortmund on the 9th and 10th of April. On both days, Alex will have a small gallery where he will display artworks and he will hold interviews. Rumour has it that he will show a few early concepts of TNBT, our upcoming game from EGOSOFT.

Check out DortCon information from their website (German only).

Concepts of TNBT? :o

Would it be possible to put them on the web after the convention? As Dortmund is a bit too far for me to go, and we all need something shiny to salivate over... 8)

Unfortunately, not a chance of attending, but looking forward to any more info, even if it's static artwork and hints rather than anything on game mechanics, or video :D

Of course I'm sure that some nice person from EGOSOFT (aren't they all, grovel, grovel) will post those images of most interest to the masses.
Or should I send Alex a nice email...

The gradual release of these teasers of TNBT reminds me of that time I watched a Boron perform the dance of the seven veils :boron:

Good luck Alex.

I'm also wondering if it's a requirement that at least half of those that work on an Egosoft game are named Alex 8)

Yes good luck Alex, you already know your work is appreciated and accepted by SciFi fans in this community so I'm sure you'll do fine.

As an artist I would be interested in your view on digital art in the context of technology changes like Dx11 features and realtime ray tracing. Also designing art with the restrictions of the technology you have to work within...

Well... the restrictions are not so the problem anymore in modern times... thinking back at the good old days where you are stuck to only 8 / 16 colors per sprite or paralax layer.

Today it is more like making real artworks but in an realtime environment... We use normal maps, specular, diffuse... we have realistic lighting, ambient occlusion and so on. All the things you also have if you work with an 3D program just to create single artworks.

But... still... my favorite way of making art is working with my tablet in Photoshop on pixel based artworks, concepts or the old school way... using a pencil and a piece of paper ;)

Thanks for your feedback... all of you!

Looking at that pic, I am somehow reminded of the Presidium Ring, Citadel Station from Mass Effect series.

It looks like the day of Dort, if I'm reading the site correctly. I don't speak a lick of German.

Any information on the exact time/date of Alex's panel/segment/exhibit/whatever?

The convention is called DortCon, because it takes place in Dortmund.
