Anyone fly the Khaak M3?

Post by Bill Huntington » Fri, 1. Apr 11, 18:48

I just picked up an Khaak M3 in one of the FF missions. I waited for a lull, claimed it, entered it, transferred Docking computer, docked with the Hype, and jumped the Hype out. In previous games, I've noticed that they go absolutely nuts when you take one of their ships, spawning right next to you, and keep on spawning.

From the stats, it appears the Khaak M3 is superior to any Commonwealth M3 in Steering and Acceleration. Khaak vs. Adv. Perseus: Steering, 56 vs. 33 ; Acceleration, 71 vs. 62. Even Laser Reload is superior, 262 vs. 160.

Of course, it only takes Kyon weapons and small missiles, and has a small cargo bay. I hope to find enough Kyons in FF battle debris to outfit this one.

It must maneuver like a dream. Has anyone used one?

No, I only have two Interceptors that I capped (but i have enough KE's outfit them both)...
I once used to cap a Bomber in an Unfocused Drive Sector, but I was there with a Boreas, so it was either taking a fully-armed M2 out of it or one totally unarmed M3

Well, the Bomber is a good ship and imo it's the only Khaak ship worth flying. I us the Interceptors for joyrides, but that's it as they are not fit enough to fight other M4 (maybe a single one, but that's it)...

You should definetley be able to claim some KE's during the completion of FF. If not, use an M2 of yours later in the game, jump in the Khaak sectors and destroy the capitals, they use to drop KE's (both beta and alpha)...

best regards,

Rhox

Yes. I didn't like it much though it was quite fun for a short while.

Too slow for a ship with with no kind of missile defence, Kyons not very
accurate at distance and cargobay too small to compensate IMO.

If you want weapons -

Fly to central Kha'ak sector, the one that spawns capital ships.
Kill M2/M1 from a distance (like with M7M) to get gamma Kyons, or
close up (PPC/IBL) to get alphas and betas

I haven't claimed mine yet, it's still sitting in KS 931 from the final battle.
no sign of any Kyon weaponry to fit it with, only my stock of missiles...

The kyon emitters make it roflromically OP since they both lockon and don't stop firing unless the player releases the fire button.

I've used it in Reunion with the Kha'ak start, and even with the auto lock-on, it's still not super-accurate.

got 127 x M5
and 68x M4
and just 16x M3

they are fun to use but for me not much worth using in late game

PS: best ship to use for farming both the ships and kyons is to use #deca

would love to get Khaak M6 badly , the stats wontmatter i want it for just the looks

I have flown every single Kha'ak ship except the carriers. I am of course, not vanilla.

I flew one once, but it's far inferior to my Tenjin, so I switched back :)

Yeah, they seem awesome at first glance and are brilliant for killing annoying M5s which keep dodging your HEPT/PAC/EBCs on a Commonwealth M3, but their large size, poor speed and the horrible energy efficiency of the kyon weaponry means it has neither the firepower nor endurance (being hard to evade attacks in) for fighting groups of enemy M3s.

1-1 with most M3s when you're flying it it's naturally going to win, and it's still a very fun ship to fly. Preferred it in X2 though.
Allergic to work.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

Hmmm...Wouldn't trade in my Adv Perseus for a inferior Khaak ship. :paranid:

It annihilates M5s and M4s, but it's not very useful against M3s.

The funny thing is that it's not nearly as amazingly powerful without that swarm of KM5's to go along with it.

I remember in R, where there were commands to allow it to reform a cluster with an appropriate number of M5's. That was tons of fun, especially once where I ran into a huge encounter in Paranid Prime, and got dozens of drones. I made one super-duper cluster, and a second smaller one, and then even had M3's and M4's left over. It was awesome.

There were no such commands in X3:R--you must have been running a (heavily) modified game!

Sorry, I was in a rush when I posted that.

Yes, I was modified, though it was only a script. This one to be precise: Kha'ak Cluster Commands I tend to forget there are loonies who don't play modified. ;) Kidding of course.
