ONLINE-UNIVERSE.NET The Time is now

Post by lokidiabel »

Gibt es irgendwelche Neuigkeiten ?!
Am Beispiel von Eve und BSG Online sieht man das es erfolgversprechend ist. Was hätte ein Eve alle diesen Spielen vorraus ?! ZIELEN ! eigenständiges Zielen in einem MMO. Mein Traum ! Volle Kontrolle über das Schiff !

Die welt braucht ein XOnline !

Someone on the S&M forum once went and tried to make a very basic & crude start of an online version of X, with the aiming & free flight model in a single sector with 10 player? think it was. Turned out it so massive in bandwith use that it would be impractical. Keeping tabs in a 3D enviroment with 10 players all flying at modifiable speeds & turning rates, keeping tabs on laser& shieldenergies & the aimingdirections (keeping tab on every shot fired, instantaneous shots would improve alot, but take out the ability to dodge/aim) So in short, it's extremely hard to do.

Tbh, X is one of those games that can't work in multiplayer as it does singleplayer due to the great diversity in playstyles, from powergamers who build fleets in a matter of days, to the pirates who enjoy blowing up ships& stations to the boarders & tradingmoguls out there. It's near impossible to forge an online game to please everyone that enjoys X.

Edit: Found the topic about the person who wanted to make an online version of X: X-Online project - renewed It makes a very interesting read on why X online is hard, and that some of the things we take for granted are a nightmare to implement into an online universe.

Which is a good part of why it'll never happen. It's a niche market already and EVE already has the monopoly.

There is a blind trick to that if they wanted to pursue.

Being from a building and automation's energy programmer.

To don't send all the graphical data as a bandwidth set, also you don't have to have live interface as to which each players sees.

example, you want to view a remote system, you don't have the dash screens? what do you do? down load the remote interface control screens and the data each time you connect? hell no!

If each play has a generic template that really did not INTERFACE to what the other person sees. BUT transfer a data set of how many ships would jump into their sectors or you send them for a think, build, kind of run which is played at the players computer with some interface of data which DOES not slow down in bandwidth. The only thing one is doing is sending packs of data NOT graphic representations of the other players screens.

I think "freespace" players know how just 6-8 would bog down a T1. I would not be for another group online line ho down. BUT if they had to the only way would force people to meet up in the unfocused space sectors like chat rooms to interface or trade. I all ready gave my post for some new twist ideas in L3 but no responses.

I would be for some self interaction, or online interaction BUT full out public interface would just cost too much not technology, but the the maintenance to run such servers and complaints when bandwidth becomes slow. For one you know a guy out there on dial up will complain and say my screen is not smooth, or other players complaining some one is slowing down the connection. Been there, done that even when a players band width host the connection.
Oh the fun of restarting x3tc all over again!

Pretty sure it should read: "The time is Never"

Eve online already fills the function, Jumpgate did before it to an extent, Jumpgate Evo is still being developed although tbh I think it's a pipe dream.

This conversation keeps happening *sigh*.

If X was ever going to be an online series it would have to have been concieved and built as one from the very beginning, and would by it's nature be radically different from how it is now, therefore it wouldn't even be the same game.

Not an acceptable trade off imho.

Will TNBT have multiplayer, who knows. I'd like to think so but thats a different conversation and not related to X and so doesn't belong here.

Hmm, who's got the dead horse animation? Was it Catra, or Carlo? Or both? We need dead horse support right now!

While I agree that a multiplayer X is quiet unneeded (played EveO for 5yrs and don't need another, if they ever fix the old instead of add new, I may go back...unlikely) I don't think that it would be impossible due to bandwidth issues to make an arena version of X. There are many twitch MMOs out there that run smoothly. I played an MMO in beta recently that had 30 players in a match and had to calculate plenty of variables.

Besides, online means no modifications except maybe re-skinning something, which is pretty boring imho. If you feel something is broke, you have to work hard to create enough of a following for it to be noticed, hope its something the devs are interested in fixing, then then hope that they fix it the way that you want it... or in a way that kind of resembles the way you would have liked it fixed.

BTW, I play modified in case you couldn't tell :P

Its not possible to create a MP version of the X games without radically degrading them and removing SETA.

Ok. Letz work on this. What a the 2 facts that we cant build such a game. First is Live Market, second is free shooting and moving in 3D envirement for X Player).

I also have a advanced level of Code skills ( Bcs CS ). Everyone allways says "to much bandwith". I dont agree with that. All you need to do is slow down the Update speed of the market (what without Sinza will not needed) or even change the infrastructure of the servers (Cloud). Copmpress the data beeing transmittet ( so you will habe a higher overall CPU usage, but this isnt a Problem).

The Secend Problem is the Data we produce if you Shoot and avoid lasers. So you will need little bit more like in a 2D world. But even if you Add the third moving Vector the data transmittet is still not to high. So a dodge fight for two players is not to heavy on bandwith load. So the CORE question ist, how many Players can free move / shoot without killing oure connection. A possible solution would be a Binary tree algorithm for divide the room into Sectors in which all players in will need to know where is which Laser bolt. So if you take a Ship as a node every Ship will divide the space around him into 8 Quadrands. Its like Raytracing ray optimization.

I guese that the reason that no game producer try something like that is that you need to build something realy new !

Sry for my bad english but it isnt my native language. I hope its still to understand.

I got the basic message. I probably could not speak your native language,so thanks for trying in English.

X-Online...

It was a project that was dropped almost as soon as it started, and the original post, iirc has been remove when Ego tidied up the forums a while back.

There have been numerous posts on the subject.
No matter how the threads are killed off,new ones emerge like Madusa'a snakes.

The nearest thing to multiplayer X-gaming is SMP,which after long period of use ,is idle. Some of us would start again, but there is not enough players out there,or on here, who are interested. So for the moment it's dormant.

Basically it is turn based.
Last set of rounds each player had his own home sector and style of play,We each had our own corporations which traded with each other.
All this and more using only TC vanila plus bonus pack.
It was a great way to learn from each other.

But I do not see the day coming when there will be an X-online that will play like we play X ...At least ,not until i've been pushing up daiseys for a few years.

Guys ... I havent mean in my post that i need MMO like EVE... EVE it's EVE and nothing can oppose it, but it's VERYVERYVERY different from X (captain obvious). I asked to do co-op! SETA is a very special 4 X, but in real, i think it's possible to make a MOD which cancels SETA and adds 2-3 slots of your co-op members, and do 1 additional button "Make an alliance" (if you want), and an option that saves all of progress in the world you did with your friends. AND THAT'S ALL!!! =)
Played X from Beyond the frontier 1.0 =)
