UFO Spotted

I was flying around Tkr's Dep. looking for free ships when I came upon an unknown object. When I flew to it, it was a flying saucer. Did a scan and found a pilot inside, but the info was scrambled. First tried blasting it to see if the pilot bailed so I could claim the ship, but no go. Just blew up. Re-loaded, found it again and followed it all over the known universe. Was there anything special about this ship or just put in the game to make stups like me follow it everywhere?

Its rumoured there is a UFO base on the farside of the planet in Black Hole Sun, just no one has found it yet. You need a fast ship and plenty of SETA to find it .:)

well if you keep following it, it takes you to this place - as this Xenon found out. It wasnt worth it!

In all serious, it just flies around the X-Universe doing nothing.

The only use I have found for them is if you are at the start of a game and have a spare fast M5, just set it to follow and all the sectors get revealed for you.

Don't. There isn't one. Some people will try to mess with you and say there is. If you enjoy wasting your time, listen to them. I just want to know why EGOSOFT put it in.

Why ? Extensibility !
Think about "Unknown objects" in UFD sectors, "X" gates, ship and station wrecks etc . .
You can't do anything with them now, but who knows what lurks in future patches ?
One fine day there might be a UFO base . .
It might be possible to connect the dead gates to another galaxy and bring the space junk to life.

The UFO is a secret Goner-Pirate cooperation to get into Terran space

After I had finished several taxi missions for the Goners from Elysium Of Light to the Pirate Base in Heretics End an UFO showed up next to the pirate base and started a journey through the Terran sectors.

So I guess, it is a secret Goner project to bypass the restrictions to enter Terran space. :wink:

Dunno if it's coz my games modded, but these things are forever turning up and hoovering up spare cargo crates. At one point I had to blow 5 of them up just as they were trying to hoover u the missile crates I was after

Yes.There was a thread about it.
One mod was the culprit,but I can't remember which one,short of doing a search.
was a month or so back,perhaps late last year?

Read a post recently by a player claiming that he had taken possession of a saucer after its pilot had bailed due to attack by a Khaak cluster. He reported that although it could install no weapons it made a superb scout vessel because:-
1. It was very fast.
2. When flying around hostile sectors in it, nothing had ever tried to attack him.

Hmmm NPC bailing add on or cheat script maybe but I'm pretty sure it won't bail on a vanilla game

That is true, as far as I can tell.

Because the UFO isn't shown on the property list or shown as docked at a station (it counts as a landed ship, but without any text at all). So I doubt it could be usable, without modding the game or scripts used.
