Fun things, how to take out a Xenon Q (M7) with an M3 fighter and no missles.
So, I come into the Teladi Sector, Scale Plate Green to escort my recently captured and still damaged and shieldless Xenon L and Xenon M safely to my other ships in Omicron Lyre, only to find..... A Xenon Q (Class M7), a Xenon L (M3) and three Xenon M's (M4) on a RAMPAGE destroying everything in site. The poor beleaguered Teladi military was pretty much wiped out at this point, and the Q was attacking my L. L got toasted, I got mad. Now for you other newbies out there, I figured that I wouldn't get far with my Boron Skate prototype (M3), no missles, and only light lasers, against this array with no help from the local military. "See ya later" came to mind, and write off my Xenon M also. But I said, lets see if I can do something here. So I took out the four fighters, inside the gun range of the Q, since I couldn't lure them far from it. I then zoomed in towards the side of the Q, spiraling around, and taking a lot of hits on my shields from its turrets. When I got right up next to the hull, inside the side wing, and inside the range of the turrets, I started to whittle away with my little lasers. It was tricky staying really close without bumping its hull too hard, as the Q bucked and twisted and varied speed and tried its best to shake me off. It was like riding bull at a rodeo (Albeit, a slow bull.) I finally managed to destroy the Q. Here is a screen shot of the action. click on the link and go from slide 1 through 7 reading the descriptions for a quick little short story of the event. Enjoy!

Well gratz to your hunting success. But isn't an M3 a bit to much for a Q?
With the right techniques a Q is one of the less problematic foes.

Thanks Tbowen. It was very fun. I did have to reload once, bc while in the middle of the fight, I saved so I could come back to get screen shots, and when it finished saving, I couldn't wrap my fingers and thumb around the proper keys to get mouse flight back in time. I kept pressing the wrong keys, and crashed against the Q's hull and blew up. -Moral of the story, don't save in the heat of battle, LOL-

You're probably right, but the whole point is that I'm a newbie, and any big hulking ship looks scary bc of the times I got blasted so easily by them. Also, I didn't know about the blind spots, figured it out on my own, but had no missles and weak lasers. Also to let other newbies aware of the blind spot tactic. Mostly it was for the entertainment value. Thanks for the link btw.RyuKazuha wrote:Well gratz to your hunting success. But isn't an M3 a bit to much for a Q?

I've been to the end game with huge fleets, and Q's never cease to be scary looking, especially when 3 point jump on top of you.
