[Dead-Beith-Dead] Wanted dead or alive: one Adrian Tulatha D'advent
Hi there!
I suppose I'll just get started then?
Rules:
-Dead-is-dead, if I hit the gate or a capital coming through it, it's my own damm fault.
-I can only buy L variants at shipyards (you know, those really expensive ones with the most stuff that are almost never in stock? those ones.) otherwise, I've gotta 'convince' the pilot that he'd rather give his ship to me (ether by force or via large bags of money.)
-if I want a ship repaired, I've gotta pay for it. no repair lasers except on my own ship (the one I'm flying)
-no hiring TLs. I want a station? I've got to buy a TL to haul it around. or buy and existing one. (Or, the most likely, being a pirate an' all, steal one!)
installed mods:
Cadius's X-tra pack
my own X-tra sectors
Pelador's DAD ( I never use 'em though.)
other stuff:
escape pods
and... well...
a picture was faster.
Cycrow's scripts were used for set-up, but will only be used to fix broken plots (the only time I'll be reloading. I'll point out in the relevant posts when this happens. and by 'broken' I mean that the stupid TS docks at the wrong station. and never undocks. ever.)
Start sector: Brigand's Enclave (note: if I talk about sectors you are unfamiliar with, they are added by X-tra sectors)
Startin' assets:
1x Pirate Falcon
-4x IRE
-fightMK1
-SETA
-Cargo lif support
-duplex
-boost extension
-freight scanner
-VEGs
-low race ranking
-same otherwise as Bankrupt Assassin
Pirate anarchy port, Brigand's Enclave, The Burned Boron (local bar):
"Damm, Damm, Damm! it was all going so well!" the man at the end of the bar cursed. he wore what was clearly an expensive suit, but its disrepair was evident. he had also clearly not shaved, or indeed bathed at all, for some time, and was very, very drunk. "I thought I had it all figured out, right? get it in with everybody, run some weed and fuel in the background for money, and retire to a cozy station somewhere. But no. I'm never trusting a Teladi again." the bartender, a swarthy argon man who clearly had done something similar, rolled his eye (for the other was covered by a patch and a nasty scar) and went about his business. the man had regaled his story about every three glasses or so, and even the bartender had lost count. " 'it'll be easy' they said. 'you've got a frigate' they said. 'we'll pay you lots of money' they said." the man pauses here to finish his glass, which the bartender refills without a word. "so there I am, about to waste a convoy, when the frakkin' Argon Police, who apparently have been on to me for some time, decide to drop by and say 'hello!' of course, their version of 'hello' is shooting enough Tomahawks at me to destroy a small moon, and following up with a Colossus and about a bajillion Novas, which blow my ship to pieces. fortunately, I'd bailed about some thirty seconds prior to my flagship being turned into a small amount of shrapnel by PPC fire! Now, here I am, back where it all began, flying the only ship I could beg, borrow, or steal, with nothing but the remains of my damm suit! If I ever run into Guilis again, I'm gonna wring his scrawny neck, shoot 'im a few times to be sure, mail his head to the Argon Police HQ with a note sayin' 'you're next,' and then I'm gonna scatter what's left of 'im across as many sectors as I can manage! that double-crossing, cold-blooded, squint-eyed low-down good-for-nothin' snake! He is meat!" at this, the man stood up glaring at the ceiling "YOU HEAR ME GUILIS?" he shouted (at the ceiling) "YOU ARE MEAT! I'M GOING TO HUNT YOU DOWN, AND WHEN I GET DONE WITH YOU, THEY'LL BE ABLE TO BURY YOU IN DAMM SHOEBOX! YOU ARE DEAD!" with that, the man slumped back into his chair, with a not-insignificant raggedness about the edges of his breath. the bartender spoke then.
"Adrian, I think you've had enough fuel for one day. besides, you've scared away every Teladi in the bar, and not a small number of Argon too. you can still hold your liqueur, I'll give you that."
"heh. how many am I up to now? I lost count about five glasses ago."
" Well, there's the snarky runt who threw in with my lads at Rock Cove all those jazuras ago! and truth be told, I've lost count as well. you always had a freakish tolerance for fuel, and it seems your time being 'legitimate' hasn't dulled that any. of course, it also can't hurt that you've had your snarky butt on one of my bar-stools for nigh-on a wozura! Adrian, I know you got your ass handed to ya, and that I owe ya pretty much everything" the bartender unconsciously rubbed a hand over the scar on his head, which meandered from his jawline to the back of his head, crossing the left eye of the large man on its way, and marring an intricate tattoo on the left side of his bald head "but truth be told, if you keep up this pace, I'll be out of drinks by tomorrow, and, to appeal to the boy I took in, you won't get your revenge by sitting in my bar, drinking all my booze. the only way to do that is to go get it yourself, and I know that's always been something you good at."
" thanks Capin', you always seemed to know what to say to snap me out of it."
"Hey now, I haven't been a captain for nigh ten jazuras now!"
"heh. old habits die hard. I'm gonna go now."
"till we should meet again, then, Adrian Tulatha D'advent."
"I'll be back. you can be sure of that, Captain Morgan Azari."
"take what ya can!"
"Give nuthin' back!"
and with that, Adrian walked out of the Burning Boron, humming a jaunty tune almost under his breath. It was time for the Terror Tulatha, Doom's Advent, to be feared once more. not long ago he had considered going completely straight. now, he knew he never would. he was back in old rhythms, the dock seemed sharper, the recycled air crisper, and the feeling of something missing, something that he had had once but lacked now, that had plagued him for nearly two jazuras, had vanished. He was on the bottom once more, true, but he'd kicked and screamed and fought like hell to get to the top, he wasn't just going to vanish into obscurity, despite the temptation. Adrian Tulatha D'advent was back on the prowl, and woe betide any who stand in his way.
Morgan watched the Falcon scream from the hanger, and chucked to himself. "still as brash as ever, the rascal! and to think the old boys all thought he'd gone straight! that boy is a Pirate, to his very core. ahh me, I've grown old and slow, tending the bar here. the young pup makes me want to close down and go dust off the old girl again... Hmmm..."
more later, this is only the beginning!
we haven't seen the last of Captain Morgan, he'll show up later in my little ballad. so don't worry. also, I write these entries with the game open, alt-tab'ed over, so I can check my notes (in the ships log)

Split say Arrrgh: Easy (and not-so-easy) pickins'
+=Adrian's log: first day at the bottom again=+
I woke up in the cramped cockpit of my fighter (as I had for nigh-on three mazuras now) with the mother, father, grandmother, and cousin twice removed of all hangovers. as I consulted my log entries, I realized that, while I'd been drunk, and thusly hadn't planned much, I'd had the right idea. while most of the last three days had been a fuel-lost blur, I did remember that I'd talked with the captain at that bar he runs nowadays, and got it into my head (after imbibing vast quantities of Space Fuel) to go pay Guilis a visit, then promptly wring his scrawny Teladi neck for setting me up. so here I am, back in Rock Cove, shooting up traders (ahhh....good times.) the freighter captains seem more reluctant to part with their ships than I remember. o'course, that could have something to do with going from doing this in a shiny new M7 to doing it in a beat-up old Falcon...
apparently I found one who was (while I was still drunk out of my mind,) for upon checking my property computer in the vain hope that one of my former fleet was overlooked by the Argon constabulary, I discovered a Vulture Miner, sheildless and damaged, docked happily to old Grigori's Base in Brigand's Enclave. Well, if the captains would rather explode into pretty white fragments of metal than get stuffed into a smallish box in my cargo hold, I really can't argue. oddly, I've been seeing a disproportionate number of Teladi flying Demeters. must have been a sale or something. those new argon sectors are interesting, but inconvenient, as apparently they don't hold much with me picking on their traders, and are between me and Brigands Enclave. as for the Teladi, I'd just as soon see the lot slow-roasted over a hot fire, or a fighter engine. any Teladi pilots that bail on me aren't gonna live to see another credit: I'm tossen' 'em out the rear lock without the benefit of a suit. ah well. I suppose I should have a talk with Helga's boys, they seem to have stirred up the Xenon somthin' fierce. I was happily minding my own business (that being the 'business' of shooting up these here traders) when a missile, seemingly from nowhere, hit a choice target I'd been working on, blowing it to bits. 'now where'd that come from, I wonder?' I thought, even as I wheeled about to see-
a whole bunch of reeeal pissed off robovacs. a good dozen fighters, L's and LX's mostly, hanging around a pair of PX's. a few Mazuras ago, I'd have ordered full speed and power to forward guns, now all I can do is sulk off to Helga's base and be thankful the frakkin' lawnmowers hadn't noticed me, or didn't care enough to come after me.
I did find a good picture of the vulture in my forward camera's memory though... where was it.....*rummaging* ahhh! there it is!
whelp, back to plying the craft I know best: shooting at things for money and/or gains of questionable morality, commonly called 'Piracy' by those trying to be vulgar.
+=end log=+
current assets:
1x Pirate Falcon (Tulatha's Vengeance)
-4x IRE
-2x 5mj shields
1x Vulture Miner (Ill-gotten Gains)
-current;y parked at the PB in Brigand's Enclave, awaiting repair and equipping, or for me to get enough rep back with the Argon to sell it somewhere.
Immediate goals:
-raise some money capping traders.
-get back into good, or at least tolerable, graces with the Argon.
-get a better ship than this crappy M3- so I can send the Teladi-made piece of flying scrap metal to the wreckers.
Long-term goals:
-generally F%$# up everything I can that's Teladi-related.
-rebuild empire of stations, ships, and other sundries.
Prospects:
good, barring freak accident. 10mj is a little low, but I'll fix that problem as soon as I get some money.
current fun rating (this being my First DID ever, I'll be recording how I'm feeling, via emotocon (and some text sometimes);)
yo ho yo ho...

Striking it Big: in which Adrian has a laugh at the Teladi's expense
+=Begin log: Whoohoo!=+
Wow. I mean, Wow. Helgas's boys really know how to put the fear of death into these pilots, just hanging around Rock Cove netted me a Falcon Vangard, Mako Raider, a Pegasus, even an M!
oh and two more freighters to sweeten the deal.
those fighters all had a 5mj shield intact upon boarding, so I gots meself a hansom 25mjs of shielding now, and damm if I feel less tense in dogfights! And, to make things even better, I had to flee to the neighboring Unknown sector when the Kaa'ak and the Xenon decided that Rock Cove would be a good place for a furball. and lookie here what I found! this beaste reads as a 'Polacca Prototype' according to B-377-Y, and is freaking hooj.
it seems a tad lacking on weapons power however.
further examinations revealed something even better: that mother can mount Boarding pods!
the Big Mother is now one of the ships I'm gonna keep around. I've a feeling that I'll want something like her when I get to going after bigger prey...
+=end log=+
assets:
1x Pirate Falcon (Tulatha's Vengeance)
-4x IRE
-5x 5mj shields
1x Vulture Miner (Ill-gotten Gains)
now going to be parked in Rock Cove, where I'll be operating for the foreseeable future
1x Vulture SF (Target Practice)
ditto
1x Mercury SF (Lucky Strike)
also parked!
1x Polacca Prototype (Big Mamma)
-2x 2gj sheild
-4x PRG (in turrets)
-2x Wildfire missile
1x Mako Raider (unnamed, going to the scrap heap)
1x Falcon Vanguard (unnamed, going to the scrap heap)
1x Pegasus (unnamed, going to the scrap heap)
1x M (unnamed, going to the scrap heap)
and for your enjoyment, the beginning of a habit: a pretty picture of my ill-gotten gains for the day, as well as my personal ship!
click for pretty picture
short-term goals:
-get rep with Argon so I can sell off some of these ships
-get me some marines
-hang out at Rock Cove and generally clean up on cowardly freighter pilots
Long-term goals:
-generally F%$# up everything I can that's Teladi-related.
-rebuild empire of stations, ships, and other sundries.
Prospects:
things are going very well! I'm up to 25mj in shielding from stripping those fighters, and damm if an extra 15mj doesn't make me feel a little bit safer. things are looking up for our...well..."hero," so on we go!
Current fun-o-meter:
I be haven' fun! I can't believe I've never done this before, it really adds something, I think, to truly be fighting for dear life.
well, that's all till a more reasonable hour, It's around 1:30 in the morning right now, and I'm hitting the hay. see all of ya around noonish!

The Gravy Train: in which the Teladi are cowards, the Argon are stupid, a bit of story begins to creep into the logs, and Adrien finds the motherload
+=start log: It can't be this easy.=+
I'm waiting for the hammer strike. the Argon authorities seem remarkably forgiving, as they'll apparently ignore the muffled shouting of the various pilots I've got trussed up In my cargo hold in exchange for me shipping one girl out of the Anarchy Port at Rock Cove to the pirate base... in Rock Cove. with a 20 mizura limit. to fly about 18 kilometers. ohh kaaay......
ah well. I'm back up to 'federation member,' and I've sold off most of the ships that I 'found' yesterday. oh and speaking of 'finding' things, NMMC needs to find less cowardly pilots, as one driving a Kea decided to bail at around 75% hull, and a escortless, toothless Pelican driver decided to bail at the exact moment my first shot pinged his hull...
so yeah, I've got a TM now.
fool even had a jumpdrive, all mine now.
there's also a Paranid idiot stewing in one of the hold's boxes. I'm undecided on whether to throw 'im out the airlock sans spacesuit, or just sell 'im off. that reminds me, now that I've got some pocket change, I should pick up a few things...

assets:
1x Pirate Kea (Tulatha's Gain)
5x IRE (4 in front guns, 1 in rear turret.
-same equipment as the P. Falcon (which got stripped and sold.)
1x Pelican (False Pretenses)
-boost Extention
-jumpdrive (this is going into my Kea shortly.)
1x Demeter SF
-1mj shield
en route to the wreckers
1x Vulture Miner (Ill-gotten Gains)
-5mj shield
now going to be parked in Rock Cove, where I'll be operating for the foreseeable future
1x Vulture SF (Target Practice)
-5mj shield
ditto
1x Mercury SF (Lucky Strike)
-5mj shield
also parked!
1x Polacca Prototype (Big Mamma)
-2x 2gj sheild

-2x Wildfire missile
also parked, awaiting engine tuning.
471175$ after outfitting Big Mamma with max engines and rudder, as well as extending her cargo bay by 9001.
shot-term plans:
-cap a fast m5 (disco or summet)

I'm undecided on whether to throw 'im out the airlock sans spacesuit, or just sell 'im off. that reminds me, now that I've got some pocket change, I should pick up a few things...

well, I found something interesting just now. there was another sector run by Helga's boys south of Rock Cove, and south of that, there's a stinkin' Teladi sector. now two things happened: first, I noticed that this sector as both huge and full of asteroids, and second, the Teladi Bio Transporter (with a hold full of spaceweed) that I'd been tailing real quiet-like suddenly veered off ninety degrees from everything and headed off into the 'roid field. I followed, of course, being curious, and lookie here what I found! A Pirate Base! and a fairly large operation too, as further investigation revealed wheat farms, Fuel distilleries, and Bliss Places, hidden in the asteroid field...so that's what's keeping Rock Cove supplied...
Nice.

I was poking around in this Kea's memory core when I found something interesting. a sheaf of notes and a small datapad, wedged in between a piece of loose hull plating and the inner Hull... It had a reference to 'a Big find' in the east of a Teladi sector called 'Tumbling Stone.' then something about an attack, and hiding in the asteroids to wait it out. looks pretty beat up too, and I don't think the previous owner of the ship even knew it was here. hmmm, according to my Nav 'puter, one of the gates in this sector leads to this Tumbling Stone... It's worth a look...

God Damm!
when I saw 'big find' I expected a yield 64 asteroid or summet...
not this.
god damm.
I think I just died and went to heaven.
my computer says that this is a TL, but it is clearly not.
Oh man.
Oh man.
this thing....
Mein Gott.
I think I've found my new flagship.
and it came with some pretty sweet loot too...
enough Gauss cannons to equip a couple of corvettes.
or, looked at another way, enough hard cash for me to buy some real weapons and repairs for my ships...
now where'ed that P get to? I'm gonna blow it into chips for blowing my prey into bits!
Ohhhh.... baby, you an' me are gonna have so much fun....

I think In-game it's been about a week. 148m/s may sound like a lot, but finding that was... interesting. (the radius of that sector, BTW, is around ~300 KM, and the actual sector is off on the upper right corner. the sector's mostly 'roids.
also, the Prospector TL/M7 hybrid, without upgrades, moves at a stately 60m/s, and...welll...
heavily damaged freighters. they're kinda slow. so alot of it has been Sitting Around with the SETA on 10x while I wait for the ship to get from point A to point B. I've also had to execute the RSLALG (Run Screaming Like A Little Girl) maneuver, as being in a Pirate core that borders a string of Xenon sectors and an Argon core, that seems to be of some importance to the Kaa'ak, can get interesting. very good salvage opportunities though, nothing beats cleaning up after the Xenon, Kaa'ak and Argon decide to have a Furball in range of Helga's Brigantine flagship and two Carrak escorts....
(IBLS! EVERYWHERE!)
so yeah, I'm cleaning up.
also, fun fact:
I write stuff here as it happens, so this is kinda like a 'captain's log'-ish type narration... with little bits that are not so much.

well, after selling off those Gauss Cannons, then upgrading a few things, I had a good ~150k left, so I did something unusual: I went and actually bought a Discoverer. A Discoverer Raider, to be precise. now as as soon as I find some explorer command software, the Prying Eyes will be off to scout out sectors for me.
things elsewhere are going well, my flagship, the Tula Khan II, is now jump-capable courtesy of the Spilt, who are apparently fond of sending unarmed Energy Traders who know exactly what will happen if they don't drop their freight and run when I ask nicely.
I picked up a pair of PBE's from the forge in Brigand's Enclave, but nothing I've got can mount them. oh well. guess I'll have to keep em around for if an LX decides to bail or summut.

-4x IRE

I'm debating whether to keep this or not. what do you guys think?
(its at a little under 50% hull)
1x Vulture Miner (Ill-gotten Gains)
-5mj shield
repaired, currently still docked at Light Mists shipyard
1x Mercury SF (Lucky Strike)
-5mj shield
same as above
1x Vulture SF (Target Practice)
-5mj shield
limping along at 13m/s to shipyard for repairs
1x Polacca Prototype (Big Mamma)
-2x 2gj sheild
-4x PRG (in turrets)
-2x Wildfire missile
tuned up, working on the massive cargo bay now (I'm up to 14,000 extensions, and not even half done yet.)
money: regrettably, I exited prior to getting the exact figure, but ~120k is ballpark at current. (in short, while I'm not rolling in cash, I've got some elbow room for repair and equipping and such. carefully managed, I should be able to turn what I've got into a factory nest-egg, If I go cap a TL instead of buying one. maybe I should get one of my scouts to follow a boron trader so I can pick up some IONDs....)
Short-term plans-
-get marines
-get an M7M so I can use marines properly
-stop dogfighting with L's and losing my cargo life support. I'm getting a bit tired of scrubbing down the cargo hold.
long-term plans-
-get more scouts going
-make more money
-F@#$ with the Teladi (perhaps this goal could help with my second short-term one. hmmm...)

Things start to move: in which the plot heats up and starts moving
+=Begin log: lean days=+
man, things here have got quiet. there was a steady flow of traders not long ago, but it seems to have dried up. as a consequence, I am currently picking off the odd Teladi freighter that comes through, while my scouts find me a new hunting ground. I've acquired an additional pair of Discoverer Raiders from the shipyard at Light Mists, and will be sending them off in search of greener pastures shortly.
Almost seems like summet has scared all the traders away...

1x Vulture
-deluxien wheat (345 units)
en route to fuel distilleries in Brigand's Enclave
1x Vulture Hauler
1x Vulture Miner
[Argon Military Advisement, origin Flames of Prometheus Military Command:]
All units and argon allies are to be informed that the Pirate Taipan-class superbattleship Harbinger has been reported near the Light Mists district area. all trade vessels are advised to use Extreme Caution during their runs in the nearby sectors. official orders are Shoot-on-sight, but exercise discretion, the Harbinger should not be engaged except by superior tonnage in capital-class vessels.

bleh. scouting is boring. and I lost the Prying Eyes to top it off. I need to have a 'chat' with the local VI dealer... M5's should not attempt to charge Q's when armed with IREs. bah. At least the traders are bailing almost as soon as I start bouncing shots of their hulls....
got myself a Caiman now, bring me up to four freighters and one I'm undecided on. I found that the local Anarchy Port here in Rock Cove has bootleg Jumpdrives, so I'm outfitting all my ships with 'em in preparation to move.
I've also mad an executive decision. I can no longer simply attack the Teladi. I need things they have. it looks like I'm going to have to make nice with them and a few others for a while, as distasteful as it might be. I may even need to hire a good hacker and get a new identity, an old friend tipped me off that the Argon realized that I didn't die in the raid. they haven't connected the dots yet, as I've been keeping a low profile and only flying in Argon sectors under false IFF, so I should be safe long enough to escape from anywhere near Argon space with all my assets.
I'm going to sell what's left of the captures, then concentrate on finding somewhere to set up shop. I hope I can make it.....

Sold the last of the captured freighters. I've decided to use that Demeter SFXL to ferrey Ecells for my hungry jumpdrives. lost the Little Eye in Xenon 598, I spy is mapping a AES it found in vain hope of finding something useful.
Dah de do. thank god for SETA.
I've heard ominous rumblings from whats left of my contacts, the military is gearing up for something big. and to top it off, the Burned Boron was closed when I wanted to talk with the captn' and take a load off. bah.
gods, I hope the trail is as cold as I think it is... I don't need the Argon Home Fleet coming after me right now. I just hope that these fake IFF codes are enough to fool Argon Security long enough for me to get the heck outta here... Rock Cove may be a fair hunting ground, but the more I hear, the more my proximity to a military-established Argon Core makes my nervous.

"...and in other news, it seems that the newly established Light Mists District is suffering from some Pirate trouble. our own Alia Tol reports from the command base in Flames of Prometheus."
"Thank you. as you know, it has recently been confirmed that 'Red Hand' Morgan, former terror of Pirate Alley, has apparently come out of retirement, as traders in the New Expansion region have been raided by groups bearing his marks and even a few that reported seeing his flagship, the Harbinger, a stolen Split Taipan-class Superbattleship, off in the distance. I have here with me Xaviro Teleck, most famous for orchestrating the operation that brought not-so-former pirate Adrian D'advent to justice, here with me on behalf of the local Argon Military Command."

+=begin log: well that's one way to do it=+
well! the old man's sure made a splash! looks like he riled up the Argon military somthin' fierce. there was a Colossus and a Titan coming into Rock Cove right as I was taking my leave via my brand-new jumpdrive. good thing too, I only learned later what had happened.
one hell of a way to announce that your back! pulling a damm warfleet together and blowing the hell out of an Argon military sector, and popping out on stolen jumpdrives before re-enforcements show up. and leaving a great bloody minefield floating through the sector ta boot.
I am so glad I'd decided to make like a tree before he kicked over the two-story hornet's nest. I think I found one of the old Terran expansions, there's all these orbital accelerator doohickeys around...
good place to set up shop, jumpdrives don't work going through those thingies.
daym.
on a happier note, my last scout found another one. bigass TL/M7 blend, looks like Split work. acording to my computer its a 'Linx Hauler.'
It can carry station-sized cargo, which is gonna be reeeal useful soon... Distasteful as it is, I'm gonna have to toady up to the Teladi. I need somewhere to store my Loot, and those Teladi Trade Stations are mighty motivating.

Oh Noes!
I'm afraid a massive quantum singularity caused by factors unknown* caused a complete universe failure, resulting in the erasure of all of the Intrepid captain Adrian's adventures to date. due to the nature of such things, however, his life up to the fateful day at the bar in Brigand's Enclave remains unchanged. however, rest assured that there will be more from the ......errrrr......'good' captain later. until then, feel free to make wild speculations over where the plot is likely to go.
*Read: XTC came out
in short: X-tra sectors 2.0 isn't going to be save-game compatible (in all likelihood) so I'll be starting over from the beginning.
