i need help coming up with some names for a few ships in a fan-fiction story i am making(Not a DiD) list of ships that need names are

right now anything, but for the Tyr's i want names that should put fear into enemy's, and For the Boron Ships a marine theme because they are squids

for the boron - Cuddle-fish, Clown Fish, Calamari, Crappie, and Bubbles

hehehe.... more seriously though. what i like to do is go to google translate and play around with words and languages until i find something... example my Hype V is the Vano Lucra which means 'unfounded gains' in latin.

another option is pick a mythology and start picking names based off of that.....

Angelus Sanguinis means Angel of Blood or something along t hose lines

I find mythologies around the world generally have good names.

For instance Kharybdis, Ker (greek death spirit), Wyvern, Rok, Makhê (greek for battle), Hekate, Morrigan (Irish war deity), Eris (greek goddess of strife), Sekhmet (egyptian war goddess), Shiva (one of his aspects is the Destroyer) and the list goes on.

I also have some names I use pretty often, like Blackheart, Kurai Tenshin (japanese for "dark angel") and, if my ingame character is female, I tend to name the flagship of the fleet "Black Rose."

You can also take a page out of some semi-famous wrestler's book (cough) and call your flagship "Vocare ad Regnum", which is latin and roughly translates as "(to) call to the kingdom (of)". Lots of possibilities

the "Black Rose" reminds me of a ship from Homeworld 2, there was a mod that had a ship called the "Black Rose", it was a good warship in HW2 lol

If you like 'Crappie' for one of the Boron maybe 'Weaki', 'Fluke', 'Cobia', 'Porgy', or 'Tautog' might give you some ideas, staying with a "fish" theme.

Some other quick ideas; 'Black Dawn', 'Dark Moon', 'Black Star', 'Dark Night', or 'Blue Night'.

I use 6 names all the time. They are from the titles of 2 favorite trilogies;
'Sun Diver', 'Uplift War', and 'Startide Rising', then 'Heaven's Reach', 'Infinity's Shore', and 'Brightness Reef'.

Here is a name i use rather frecuently, as it is one of my favourite quotations as well: Ultima tule nescesse est, probobly truly bad spelling but it means: The ultimate boundry (limit), is nescesery.
I hope my poor English and lame spelling didnt ruin it and made it to difficult to understand, and hope you can use it for some good purpose.

i like naming ships but it's usually contextual and reflecting the character i'm playing. As for my current character, Alys t'Ldl (Name glyphs separately reading as 'light' 'broken' 'refocused' unsurprisingly ), a cybermodification-obsessed female Split tinkerer/mercenary with a bidirectional cultural disconnect placing her not only outside her culture but even the normal living environment (Typically according to lore Split women are all about communication and clique. She...possibly would have been if her life had been typical - but for one reason or other she lacks that experience and frequently even meaningful socialisation as such, instead again and again slipping into unhealthy loneliness, tinkering, having affectionate conversations with pseudointelligences of her own creation installed in her Xenon trophy ships and sort of playing a concubine of her own flagship's tactical analysis system, constantly and in vain trying to 'calm it down' and chiding it after battles regarding the destruction inflicted by her own orders). Her Morrigu M1 (XTC) is called Melancholy of Void and the remote-linked Xenon R, Q and PX escorts are Destructive Passion, Metallic Heart and Loneliness Amidst Kindred respectively. Her personal fighter garage has Split names without translations - such as Kt'ti, S'nv Bol and Di y'Nah.
I am of course awfully sorry about mixing stuff and generally playing a Split Ultranaut of Alastair Reynolds variety. But that's her, i feel the character and can't help it.

Generally my naming system is:


Terran - Sunfire, Luna, Patriot, Corona Solis
ATF - Harraser, Interdiction, Annihilation, Inquisitor
Argon - Starborn, Ulysses, Zenith, Infinity, Independence, Unforgiveness (the latter because the only sense i can make of Argon commitment to erasing their Earth cultural baggage is that their actual history is much less about heroism and more about being sacrificed by high command)
Boron - Undertow, Riptide, Endless Quest, Luminiscent Kingdom, Everywhere Eventually
Split - Family Xyn's Might, Red Vision, Rhonkar's Majesty, Battle Rage, Destiny of Domination
Teladi - Trickster, Zuran Nostalgia, Many Millions, Insidious Disclaim, Company Pride (EDT: CP is a sector so i change that to Insinuation of Threat)
Paranid - Threefold Retribution, Bringer of Truth, Wrath of the Righteous, Pontifex's Judgement, Dimensional Transcendence
Yaki - Blood Brotherhood, Oni, Bad Cat, Kitsune, Raccoon Dog, Lady of Arts, Weaver's Wake
