Those are model files.. you need a modeling software or viewer to edit or view them.

GMAX is free..

You confuse with 3D obj files, in the X3 TC obj files are not model files (in X2, X3R also the same), OBJ files like X3story.obj, X3galedit.obj (not too sure about file names, I don't modding X3TC), contains almost all game functions and commands or something like this, but don't contains 3D models.

It is possible to unpack and repack OBJ files (in the russian forum are softwares how can do that - Disassembler and Assembler), but to change something in these files you must have programming knowledge and scripting also, I think so. OBJ files are written in KC code or something like, maybe I'm wrong, I don't know too much about it. There are some info about KC code.

Also you are not supposed to mod the .obj files due to restrictions in the EULA. Wink

Maybe few weeks ago, I send question to "jlehtone" about posting obj patch (author from russian forum created x2story.obj patch) for X2, in this patch author make very big changes in obj file. "jlehtone" forward my query to more knowledgeable fellows. They answer was:
Quote:
To summarize feedback: "obj-files are data just like scripts, tfiles, and ship models", so you should be ok to post.

From this answer, I understand that - obj files can modifying and posting in the forum. I think I understand all correctly.

It seems the rules may have changed then. In X3R a mod changed the .obj files and they were asked to remove the changes again because they were in conflict with the EULA.

If someone from ES could clarify this issue, that would be nice. ^^

Isn't the author looking for the job-file? I mean, changing the code is... a pain in the a** if you ask me. those are deep changes and just for adding more marines in the universe the obj. isn't the right place. This is more like the games physiscs or script-commands... Rolling Eyes

Actually Marines are not jobs file related. They are wares and seem to be hard to fix!!!

Though Eldyranx3 has added Terran Marines in the Terran Revitalisation Project. Next step is to get the Terran Marines to sound like Terran Marines and not a mixture of all the other races!

Hey guys,

I just asked the big boss about it and Bernd says he's fine with the modification of the X3TC OBJ files. Have fun. Wink
