So I prepared my own 00044.xml in order to use parts of X3 voice recordings in a mod.
When i remove original 00044.pck and put my xml file in mov folder it works fine. But when I try to put my 00044 in a cat/dat (no matter if as mod or fake patch), leaving original pck in place, it does not work.

So is removing original pck the only way, or is there a way to place all mod files, including 00044.xml in a cat/dat and I'm just missing something?

Thing is, X3 reads loose files in folders AFTER the .cat/.dat files. That's why putting stuff into the t or other folders works as it does. You CAN put it into a .cat/.dat, but then still have to remove the original .pck.

I think.

I'm curious why the stock mov files are loose, anyway.

Removing the original is the only way.

X3 loads the cat/dats and then the local folders, so the original will override anything in a cat/dat.

Edit - beaten by a microsecond! Very Happy

So you could just replace the original file with the modified one ?

On that note, doesn't the game prefer uncompressed files over compressed ones?

With both the original .pck and the modded .xml in the folder, shouldn't the .xml be loaded last?

In that case there's no need to overwrite it. But I'm not sure how that works specifically, I always avoid having duplicates.

Thanks all, saved me a lot of trial-and errors!

@Halconnen
Nope, it takes pck over xml. If it was the other way, I wouldn't even notice the problem Cool
