Instructor battle level with only a sabre and a rapier... HELP!!
ok, im good at dog fighting. I started the Terran fighter pilot scenario, its my first time playing X3 without cheating...
i have a problem...
I did a lot of assassination missions in my rapier, and got good money, but now im at a loss. the only guys I am really friends with is the teladi and their fighters are crap, and now im not even past the story mission where i scan the elephant and jump away, and already gotten to instructor fighting class. I need more Fire power. the games not changing the difficulty based of the ships or weapons i own, but my individual capability. it makes me wish i let the ships i was given to kill the enemy... well they blew up over time so...
Q's are everywhere and convoys of 10-12 pirates keep appearing.
i got money, i just need to know what ships i need. and where to get the weapons.
im going through poltergeists like they where bullets in a mini-gun because i keep getting out numbered and every time i make an escort of M5's they get ventilated when i take them out to battle.
maybe if i do a few more teladi missions and get an m3, or m6??
i have explored a ton of space, and am very good at getting out of a jam, so if you know of a sector i can go to mine nvidium.
if i keep doing the story mission they will turn over a nice ship to me, but finding weapons would be hard and i would hate to lose it in a freak zenon attack.
i need some tips, the dog fights are now nothing but white knuckle, 100-1, finger bleeding, mouse breaking, battles. Its really tiring.

Being in SETA for over 6 minutes of idle time drops fight rank. If you can't find a safe SETA spot, you can sit in a station (1hour per fight rank 'point').
Nvidium is all over, If find kingdoms end easiest to mine however, it is near the equipment dock.
And a good ship for purchase? I would recommend an M6. The katana is pretty darn cheap and nice too.
You might have trouble killing a Q, but those don't become easy to handle until you get an M7. Pretty much any M7 is good, but I would recommend the Thresher, it's really easy to equip (PPC+FAA).

ok the fight rank drop is much needed. i enjoy a good dog fight every once and a while but its been to much.
i wont get the Terran M6 untill i beat the terran story mission, but i might try for the Teladi M6.
what if i got 2 Teladi m3's with 2 rapier escorts for them?
how would i order said minions to attack without turning them to space dust?

The Katana is a purchasable M6.Spoonikle wrote:ok the fight rank drop is much needed. i enjoy a good dog fight every once and a while but its been to much.

And I find the faster ships are, the more likely they are to commit suicide, make an all M3 wing if you are going to make one, it is just easier to handle.
Sounds like you need to move up to a M6, the Terran reward one is good but if your rep is low with them you'll have trouble equipping it. Though I think if you collect all the EMPC's from all the reward ships you have enough to equip it. You also get a M3+ fully equipped a bit slow for dog fighting though.
Teladi fighters don't look so hot but the are good AI controlled ships. A wing of Falcon Haulers (sentinels, I can't remember which) is great with a TM base and support, each has 200mj shielding and they don't tend to crash into things as they are fairly slow.
I wouldn't bother with M5 wings, they're just cannon fodder, you'd be better with a TS filled with fighter drones.
Take Ender's advice or pic a different race to improve your rep with and work up to buy a decent M6/7

im working on the combat rank lowering right now. and, i see your point of an all m3 wing. even though they cant kill am m5 in a dog fight ez, there is always swarm missiles... no need for an m5 escort, i have SETA'ed a dog fight between 2 m5's even though one could move 100m/s faster than the over it lasted like 5 min. i guess m5 are only useful to do the really hard assassination missions and mapping sectors.
maybe i will work on the boron, because to the Terran, the Argon are dicks. well i will get my story reward ships, and see if i can outfit them. i hate how the Terran are so "proprietary" with their weapon load-outs.
i just wish i had 2 good missile frigate's, i miss spaming those to kill capitals.
how about the m4 Paracles raider? its a Paranid design, i dont know anything about it but what my ships computer tells me.

Easiest thing to do is full up a TS with it and sell the entire TS at a shipyard.Spoonikle wrote:ok, i got a ton of nvidium, but now i cant sell it. the only places i can sell it will only buy 2... who buys nividium? can you give me a map to the sector?
You get the money for what is in the TS freight bay and normally it covers well more then the cost of the TS.
ahh that's a good idea, i didn't think of that. thanks, i got a few nova raiders and im thinking of putting energy bolt chain guns in the other 4 slots on mine for extra firepower if i need it.... would there ever be a case where i would need 8 guns? the EBCG's dont take more power so thats why i want them.
I just riped through 5 P's, and now i really think the energy bolt chainguns would be a good idea, i can switch to them when i am out of energy against a P or PX

Progression
Spoonickle, you've got enough energy to go far in TC!
You've gotten more out of a Rapier than I would have thought.
Good for you!
Here is a usual progression in TC! M3, M3 + 1 or 2 wingmen in a TM, M6, M7, M2. You are more than ready for M3 and you already have Nova Raiders. I really enjoyed the step after that. I had a Nova R and another Nova R as a wingman. I kept everyone on a Boa and deployed from that. I controlled the wingman easily in combat with shift 6 and shift 7, and also used 7 - 10 fighter drones. I could take Ospreys and Centaurs one at a time, and any M3s.
Try out all the weapons you can. But I found that there is nothing wrong with PACs. Actually, PACs on the wingmen are best, so they don't stop firing when they run out of E. Personally, I don't use ammo based weapons because of supply problems, except MAML for the SB. If you have an EBC on your wingman, when would you know that he was out? What if you run out during your 8th battle of the day? Then your suppliers are all out? It happens.
Of course, you have to kill pirates just for training. But that turns pirates more and more red everywhere in the TC universe. Then they get more aggressive to you and your traders. When you restart, be selective about which ones you kill. Then do pirate missions to keep up your pirate rep. No problems with killing Xenon and Khaak.
Welcome to TC, and let us know how this turns out.

i have been playing TC non-stop for the past week. i cant believe i went so long doing assassination missions in a raider for 1/2 mil credits each till i could get a universe trader.
there seems to be a glitch that sometimes happens in assassination missions, i appear to travel to fast for the mission AI and sometimes when i get to my target, they just float there at 0m/s. Of course other times, I get in, blast him by staying on his 6 and blast out the gate as 2 m3's close in and a wing of m5's. many times i made it through the gate just as a missile was about to hit.
I'm gonna leave the game on SETA when i got to sleep to lower my combat because i am at 90% instructor and i don't need anymore heat.
