I am trying to setup a auto trader using the trading command software MK3, but i think i need more then just that to have one of my freighters go off and make me money while I go do my thing. the only problem is im not sure exactly what they need.

so if someone could let me know what software I need to give the freighter i want to go around making money it would help alot.

thanks

they need a sector that has the stations revealed, and good trading opportunity

so say a sector has:

a solar powerplant + food factory(ies) <-- good trade sector

a solar powerplant + food factory(ies) + secondary food factory(ies) <-- better

a solar power plant + food + secondary food + high end (lasers / shields / whatnot) <-- best.

Get Trade MK3 and start Sector Trader in Home of Light and/ or Ore Belt.
Then leave them alone while they make money there.
Check their levels once in a while, once it's level 8 let him finish his selling run and stop him after that and turn him into an Universal Trader.
Because if you turn a Sector Trader into a Universal Trader while his cargo still contains trade goods he won't try to sell it after promotion so either let him finish the trade run or manually sell it or simply eject it in space
You can give him a jumpdrive manually or let him buy one automaticly wich comes at higher cost.
So it's recommended when your money is low to manually buy one.
I prefer a Mercury because it's a balanced vessel.

I think at level 4 they can jump one sector away and level 6 it's 2 and so on. you just reselect sector trader and then it asks how many jumps do you want to it to trade in. It's a good way to put a leash on them.

Yeah, I noticed that too...
But the problem there is that if you let a sector trader jump. When you have another sektor trader as a neighbour it happened allot that they bought the same produkt but there was just one sell location because of the jump limit.
And one can sell or even half of it, and the other trader still has a full load wich he cant sell anywhere.
And you get annoying messages that they cant get rid of their load.
So I just stick to sektor traders in one sector and let them level to 8 there.
