I'm building the plugin before releasing and until this text is gone i'm looking for idea's and thoughts that i may tweak in before v1.0



The LRS is finished, the bank (nearly) a test version will be up tomorrow (hopefully)

The Bank

The original concept was that one night i was skimming XU and read about another user complaining about the 2 billion limit.

So i thought i know lets create some Gold, so i emp'd up some gold bars at 188 million 849 thousand 628 credits per bar.

Then i added the command to stations and thought "well, it's a bit of a simple plugin that most people won't need as once you have too much money, it doesn't really matter"

So I created the "Bank" (Named Excalibur in the game) the Bank is a goner aran, once you order gold at your station it will slowly fly to your station, once there you will be hailed and asked to dock.

As docking a playership at a goner M1 is a problem i've spent some time behind the scenes gripping this. The matter is now nearly dealt with ;)

Once docked you will be given the option or buying or selling gold, In addition as the gold ship still does not seem to be that much use to most i've added the LRS to the purchase options.

This ship will also hold the gambling options discussed in another thread in the future but i'm nowhere near anything useable yet.

Now, onto the other problem that occured. An aran capable of mounting no weapons or missiles is pretty much a sitting suck and with the possibility of billions of credits worth of gold stored this means players may want to steal this gold by killing the ship. In the usual imperial fashion I am going to trust the community not to do this so the Excalibur has very little defence :)


The Excalibur also will not exist in the game unless you want to buy gold, you can use the plugin for the LRS without it. This part of the plugin only starts if you order gold, ignore it, it ignores you.

Long Range Scanner

The New Low Frequency Locator has four levels, You can upgrade the device via the Bank or by docking at pirate bases.

The scanner will allow you to scan any ship anywhere, It will report dependant on level the scanned ships details.

To equip the scanner Level 1 costs 400,000 credits, at this level you will get minimal information from the ship covering the pilots skill levels

Level 2 allows access to more information including it's orders (where the ship is trading) and destination and other upgrades, Level 2 costs 1 million credits

Level 3 covers all the ships details and cargo, the cost is 5 million credits

Level 4 is for hunters only, It will report details of all marines and boarding thresholds, it cost 50 million credits

Below level 4 the scan may be detected and blocked, in addition the ship could become hostile. Even at L4 there is a slight chance of detection

Feel free to throw ideas my way before i finalise this script.

The main outstanding problem i have is that when docking at the aran about 5% of the time the game just goes boom and back to the load screen within about 2 seconds.

I've actually built in a "player must save game at this point" script check and warning before docking for the time being while i explore

I think thats good idea(about bank),it will be cool when Bank or Aran have escort ships,like two M2 and four M7 and 10 or 20 fighters and if someone try captured or attack Bank then escort will be act of lethal force and sector police and all milytary will help bank ship (no matter what sector or race -all protect bank)
Still you have good ideas and keep it on!

How are you allowing players to dock at a non player owned ship? Is there any modification to the scene file?

If not I'd add turret entries. Lots. Goner make or not this is a BANK :P. That said the greatest threat would be a Q's (or 2) alpha. 16+ gigs of shielding would be useful.

Ideas:
Gold, platinum, etc could be obtained through mobile mining - rare finds in ore.

I do like the idea of banking ships. (Can it deal with players getting *curious* and trying to rob it?)

Ideas:
As an added idea to your banking, you could add in some automated station deposit withdraw facility (As the ego stock script for that is limited in it's deposit only system), thus providing a unified credit management system.
You could say minimum credit level = 150k x stations, and maximum credit level = 200k x stations, this way it can be complex friendly (sort of). Although, a better equation would be one that is log(number of stations) like (always increasing, but by smaller amounts) (via taylor series aprox of log)

Make prettier menus (e.g. Left-Right justified columns for labels: values)

Instead of giving skill levels in numbers, use terms like very poor, poor, average/mediocre, high, very high etc. and sync them with the !plugin.acp.fight.skill.std.xml levels (4 8 12 18 22 26 27+)

theres probably a good reason for this but why 188 million 849 thousand 628 credits per bar. plus if you sell bar at wrong time could lead to lossing cash, maybe a 50 million bar and a 1 billion bar?

There was a banking script a long time ago, in Reunion, whereby you got interest on the amount, and I think the concept of loans was in the offing. Not sure if it got there.

Though this idea of storing it in gold is a new one. Kind of goes along with what people are doing in the US here, as our economy crashes and we all start thinking of learning Greek.

Will the price fluctuate, so you could kind of play the market with it?
Where does the player store it? If in player ship, if said ship gets destroyed is the gold gone also? Should it be stored in a player "Fort Knox" that we need to protect? Will it stay with the Goner ship? How about other precious minerals, that are cheaper to buy or invest in?

Great idea LV. We need it. There's too much money floating around our universes.

The idea is not new. I just cannot remember the names of users expressing it long time ago.

@cattafett: IIRC, the list of possible news wares offered by the game does assign such odd price values. Naturally, LV and EMP are less limited by such stock options, and have their own nefarious motives. :wink:

yes at approx 1 am last night i got this virus

my main pc is currently in S&D mode and don't ask how much sleep i've had or how long it's taken me to get my netbook online to access the net

anyway

Don't worry about defensive capabilities people, i told y'all trust is the key here, I trust you not to attack it so you can trust me that i didn't write any defensive code ;)

The gold is curretly set to fluctuate + - 10% of average price, the cost is preset do to emp

i can write in deposit capabilities but not yet

the docking is dealth with by some spoofing, your shipn is set to goner and you become a spectator in your ship until it simulates landing. As i said before, on a few occasions when the race change happens i get dumped to load screen

anyway back to trojan hunting

This is being worked on in a different script. Where you can "Play" the stock market on a Local or Universal level, or both. Trying to script this and learn the economic pricipals involved at the same time is time consuming however. (I have discovered that trying to produce wares and sell them at your own stations can shoot you in the a@@ on the stock market :D ) /end hijack

mark, take a look at my imperial laboratories plugin, i don't have my linklist on my netbook so check the dl index, it has a huge stock market plugin within it exlained in the fp of the thread

First, thanks for the direction to and reminder of your 'IL' script.

Second, Shame on me :oops: :oops: !!!

Just had a look through your 'IL' thread. Upon looking through it i remember seeing and looking through it quite some time ago, however, i had forgoten about the 'Stock Market' component of it.

I had started working on this after seeing many forum remarks saying this would be a good idea. We should all be kicked in the butt because it already exsisted.

My own idea was similar to, but not the same as, what you have done. However, it is similar enough as in i too was going to incorperate the normally unused wares in the game "Engine Components', 'Spacefly Eggs' ect, that i am now going to reevaluate progressing forward with it. I do not like imposing on another scripters mayor work like that.

Not that i believe what you said was intended to put me off what i was working on, but, i have my own line in the sand that i do not cross. If i am going to do something along the same lines as someone else, then there needs to be Significant Differences between theirs and mine for me to be comfortable with it.
I've already have one person say that one of the components of my menu script is an "Exact Copy" of another script that i had never even heard of let alone seen, I am not going to put myself in the possition that someone says i did it knowingly or deliberatly.

I myself have not use 'IL' due to its other included components, just not what i want to include in my game, personal preference is all.

Suggestion for you.
If you were to incorperate the stock market component of "IL" in this current project and add it to the Aran to also make it a 'Mobile Stock Exchange' and 'Bank', well now that would be something i would be very interested in. Being a bank make it so you could deposit any amount desired by the player with a possability of making or loosing upto + - 10% or you could invest in the 'Stock Exchange' or both.

I think this would really make this script something special.

the reason i pointed it out to you is so you can rip it/port it and use it for your own script

I don't really have the urge to do more with it atm but i'd be happy for someone else to update it or use the backend to save them time ;)

when i thought of IL i'd forgotted at first aboput the Stock Ex in it, the idea to port across came to me about an hour ago

IF ... you are not going to include it in this project (and i think it would be good if you did), or are not going to do anything with it in the near future, then i will investigate the stock ex and its backend in 'IL' further.

I still think it would be an excellent addition to this script if you incorperated it :D . (Stands defiantly in front of Lord Vader with stern look of determination on face :( (secretly wearing reinforced neck collar))
