I use 1920x1080 @100fps and I would like a filesize that's reasonable (aka not 2.6 GB).

Thanks, I'll try that out.

Oh and Emperorjon? I was just messing with you Razz I gave ashkrowe's ships default shielding (as if he had bought the S version from the ship yard). You lost 2 out of 18 ships while he lost 39 out of 39 ships Very Happy

DVDs use MPG2 which is IMO inferior to modern MPG4 codecs like WMV, DivX or XviD.

It was over in under 3 minutes. Very Happy

And any suggestions on the layout of the results?

Alex, I see that you're the winner of the "X3 Sektorquest". What might this be?

Cool

Oh yeah, DRINKS ON ME!

Cool

Does the video have commentary? I want to here

'And there goes the M2! And, wait, no look, 1 minute in and it's already looking like the Kamikazes are winning. The divine wind must be blowing today' In a cheezy accent. Wink

3min. footage? Not more and 2.6 GB. Dude, forget DVD software. You can shrink 3min. at 720p into less than 150MB incl. sound and good picture with XviD in no time.

Aww, I have to see this Laughing

Looks good, but I might name the fleets as well (if they have names) and link back to their ship lists.

You might want to mention what ships the victor had remaining, and if you're feeling especially typish, perhaps a couple words on what appeared to be effective and what didn't.

This is all very exciting. Very Happy

Also - for people who are interested in DLing your save games, you might want to make a few things clear on the main page -

1) the battles are vanilla.
2) you'll need my battlefield map for them to play.
3) you MIGHT not get the same victory result that TJ does. Wink

Finally. For publicity purposes, when the real battles get going you might want to post the upcoming battle in the thread title: something like X Fleet Fest: quarterfinals - EmperorJon vs. Deadbeat_Spinn 5/6/10

It was a game in the german X-Universe back when X3: Reunion was popular where the participants had been given a screenshot or pieces of a screenshot and one had to find out in which sector the screenshot had been taken. There were over 100 rounds and, although I entered the game for the first time in round 57 or something and all the others had had already total scores of 300+ points, I managed to catch up and win it with a slight advantage of some 20 points. Very Happy I'd been loving it!

Hmm Xvid you say?

Any chance of a step by step process on how to encode/convert using Xvid? (I'm new to this whole video encoding thing).

And I'll try to put in commentary if I get the time.

BooHoo Tu ich doch! the filedropper link leads not to the file and mediafire stopped during DL and won't let me try agaaaiiiinnnnn *sniff*

@technojerk:

Get Virtualdub, get Xvid, open your AVI in VD (do some editing if you like), define the codecs for sound (e.g. Lame) and video (i.e. Xvid or DivX - WMV is only supported via plugin), do some adjustments on the codecs and save back to AVI.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have one question though. How are the battles vanilla?! It's in a custom universe, with the scripteditor enabled with a 3rd party script running.

You might want to script in some real shields on those capital ships and see how well you do. Twisted Evil

Thanks, I'll try that. And I've replaced the filedropper link with a 4shared one Smile

I'm going to sleep now, so the video (with commentary) will be up tomorrow.

Ok, point... but the neither the ships, weapons, or attack scripts have been modified. Razz That is to say, the ONLY modifications made are the map and cyberfuzzie's script. You know, not VANILLA vanilla, but absolutely no chocolate or raspberries...
