No.
Its just NOT POSSIBLE with the current engine.
Designing a multiplayer game, would require a COMPLETE rewrite of ALL game codes, ships, engines, everything.
And, the people at EGOSOFT are AMAZING, but sadly, i do not be leave they are capable of making a X3 Multiplayer.
It is just not possible right now.

The amount of data that would need to be passed between each player is massive.
Best option for a multiplayer with any of the X games would be to take turns with a single savegame.
It would be something like email chess but you'd all be playing with the same pieces.
Be a funny weird way to play X, but as long as each player had the same mods and scripts there would't be any incompatabilities, only annoying thing would be the wait for your turn.
Come to think of it, it might be a fun way to play X as you never know what you'll end up with when you get the savegame on your go.
Argo.

there really is very little difference between implementing a massive online multiplayer, and a small lan version.
the implementation is pretty much the same, you still need a server to control the universe, you need to be able to sync all the games with that universe, you still need to change the game engine in many ways to allow multiple players in the same universe, etc

Other big killer for this project I suspect Deep Silver would not fund it
, as a developer Egosoft are one of a kind but even they need money to fund things like this.
From a personal point of view I also would not buy it as it does not appeal I like the sandboxness of X and multiplayer would stop that.
Then we have all the modding that goes on in X that would not translate well into an mmo.

Re: mulityplayer?
Why not having read the other bits than the mmo?Orionstargazer wrote:i know this has been covered a millions times but ive only read post about ...
Why not having looked at the TC Download Library? (Formality in this case, for there is no such mod.)
Why not using SearchFunction on this forum with "multiplayer" as keyword? It returns this. That was not a "mmo-only" discussion.
Since the previous techincal discussion is still relatively fresh, and this thread drifts into non-S&M issues, I call forth a Lock.
