grouping weapons

i have read where you can have different weapon groups, 1-4. tried to set it up but it would not work, further research on this site has led me to believe i might know what i did wrong and i would like confirmation.

i have 6 weapon bays on my main gun's i have to have the weapons i want to fire in the bays then i select which one's fire by selecting the different weapon groups. example
2 cig's group 1
2 pbe group 2
2 mass drives group2

not
6 cigs group 1
4 pbe group2
2 mass drives gruop2

p.s. not at computer where game is installed.

Yeah, I think you have the gist of it.

Switching weapon groups won't install and uninstall lasers, it just gives a quick way of reconfiguring which laser bays fire when you hit the fire button.
