Everyone JOIN IN!

This is a join in DiD. Anyone and Everyone may post or contribute towards the entire plot. Everyone can literally be part of the story by either contributing tips, ideas, plot ideas, suggestions or they may also post from the perspective of any generic character or witness of Derrik's mishaps. There are some basic rules, to those who want to post from a person's perspective in the story:

- You can post anything to do with the X-Universe portrayed in Derrik's adventures, but please, as long as it does NOT conflict with the main plot or characters.
- Take on the role of any generic character to add flavour and interest to the DiD story, such as even a subplot.
- If you want an actual character in the DiD feel free to apply for future roles.
- I have made the original save available for those who want to "play along". Available <<<here>>>. Be informed though, it is a SAV file and not an actual scripted "start" - I might add that later.

To anyone wanting to play the same start, just put the save in your My Documents\Egosoft\save folder. It will, however, overwrite the one you had there before, but you can rename the save to take up a different savegame slot. Or use a savegame manager, which I have very usefully forgotten the link for.

As usual, feedback is always welcome. I'm always on the look out for suggestions and even criticisms as I'm keeping a very open mind regarding the DiD. :)

Prologue

Derrik "the Dragon" Dream, was a man of dignity. A man of loyalty. A man of pride and honour. A man higher in the ranks than any other pilot in the universe. A man who had served the Argon Federation for two decades. And he'd just about had enough of it.

His father always used to say to him: "Son, look at the stars. There is a place among them, reserved just for you... One day you will be a man of great honour, and people will look up to you. You will serve the Argon Federation such as I have and you will do them proud.

"But father? What if I don't want to be a man of honour? What if I want to be a famous pirate like grandfather?"

"Nonsense. Your grandfather was a famous coward, that's what he was. It served him right to be shot down by the Federation. If you grow up to be like him, you're gonna regret it..."

Well 25 years later, and he was regretting ever joining the Federation. Sure he was a famous man looked up to by thousands, but being restricted to the law drove him crazy. He wanted to be the most notorious pirate, just like his grandfather. So, one day he rode off with his Colossus deep into Pirate space. Sitting at the North Gate of Maelstrom he waited and waited for his target. For days he sat there, nothing... Then he saw his target. An Argon Mercury Hauler. The Mercury didn't stand a chance against the Colossus and dropped it's freight on the sight of fire. Derrik "the Dragon" Dream laughed to himself as he caught his first catch of the day.

The next few minutes cannot be repeated in front of Derrik, for the shock it gave him. There was a blinding flash of light as three Argon Titans jumped in.

"Derrik Dream. You have betrayed the Argon government. The Senate has ordered your immediate execution on Argon Prime."

"Well, you're gonna have to get me then," he said calmly. He then turned to his Navigator. "Charge up jumpdrive to Danna's Chance."

"Error loading jumpdrive Captain. Jumping aborted."

"What are you doin?! GET US OUT OF HERE NOW!!!"

These were Derrik's last words as the Colossus was hit by many PPC's and the shields were destroyed. Derik ran to his escape pod and ejected as soon as he was in it. He felt tears fill his eyes as he saw his dear ship destroyed. Luckily, the explosion was so enormous that the Titan's didn't spot the escape pod and jumped back to Argon Prime to confirm Derrik's assasination. Meanwhile the escape pod had docked at the Pirate Base and Derrik miserably made his way to the pub.

He sat down at the bar and ordered a pint of Space Fuel. A Teladi came and sat next to him. He nudged Derrik on the shoulder.

"You look as if you lost a fleet," he said sympathetically.

"I did."

"Ahhh, I see. Once, long ago, I lost a massive war fleet when it wassss attacking Argon One. We were trying to board it, but failed. So tell me, why you spend your time with the filthy no-good pirates? You are not their scum..."

"My grandfather was a pirate. A very famous one. I guess, since I was small I wanted to be like him. Not having to live by the rules"

"Then I have a sssssuggestion. Come with me, I will show you the true nature of pirating. Not with these scum."

Derrik now for the first time looked directly at the Teladi. He heart pounced hard in his throat when he realized who he was speaking to.

"Gobanis Gustiosanis IV! You are the Yaki Prince! We have battled many times against each other in Home of Light..."

"Well, a pleasure to finally meet you then. No hard feelings on the killings in battle then. After all, we were both just doing our job..."

"Are you kidding? Hard feelings? Of course not. You are one of the greatest pirates that ever lived. It is a pleasure to meet you."

"Come with me and join the Yaki. We will one day be more coordinated than even the Argon Military. But...eh...you will first need a new ship, no?"

Rules, rules, rules...

Well Derrik Dream isn't a man of rules, as you can tell by his betrayal against the Argon Federation. So let's call these more of "goals" that he set for himself one day.

The way he is going to survive the X Universe:

1) He decided that he is no longer going to buy any Argon ships or any other for that matter unless it has Yaki written in the description.
2) He wants to play bad. REALLY BAD. He is B4D-4$$. So trading in legal goods is not an option. He's gonna stick to illegal goods (ONLY).
3) That means only illegal goods factories or weapons complexes as well.
4) He's only gonna build things in Pirate or Yaki sectors, cause he is not gonna help the Argon or any other race's economy at ALL.
5) No UT/ST traders. Why do you need some other guy to get your money? That is not the Yaki way...

Well, five goals is not bad, he thought to himself. Not bad at all. Oh well, enough rules for now. Time to start his first day as a Yaki...

No mods will be used and abused in this DiD - with the exception of Cycrow's Cheat Pack which is a necessity to get the Start Position set up in the beginning, but afterwards will be disabled...

EDIT: SETA will be used, but not much

Erm... no SETA?

Do realise how long this will take you to play?

Most games which reach a point of sufficient income are at least 4-5 days. With your goals it will be much longer.

So this is DAYS of your life spent playing this DiD, real days! :sceptic:

How much spare time do you have...?

Hmm, I see your point... :D

EDIT: @EmperorJon, Ok, SETA will be allowed, guess Derrik was just a little too ambitious

NEWS FLASH

XUN - X Universe News - presented to you by Charlene Hudson.

"A stunning turn of events has shocked everyone today, after reports have come in over Derrik Dream's death - the man that everyone honours and looks up to. Apparently the Argon Senate has accused him of severe betrayal after he supposedly stole his own Colossus and headed into Pirate space with it. Eye witness accounts have it that he then attacked an Argon Trader bringing the attention of the Argon Federation. His Colossus was then destroyed, with Derrik onboard. Roumors have been spread, though, that he still lives, after an Esacpe Pod was seen docking at a Pirate Base minutes after the destruction of the Colossus. Where is he now? Does he live in secret or is he truly lost forever? This will remain a mystery to us perhaps for eternity. We can only hope that this shocking news of Derrik's betrayal and death is a mere misunderstanding and that our hero still lives..."

Nice start :!:

This sounds interesting.

Luckily Norman Fudge has kept out of Pirate and Yaki space as best he can, with only one entry in order to reach another destination.

One question...

How can you be sure that Argon or other races do not buy from your factories in pirate or Yaki space ?
Will you set all races as enemy except Pirate?

Hmm, interesting question. They will still be able to trade, because illegal goods do not really support the economy of Argon or any other race. Traders will only be able to sell it at Pirate Bases, Anarchy Ports, and perhaps as a second recourse on a few stations, but the economy does not really rely on illegal goods, they just bring in some cash...

Part I

Chapter 1 - A Decent Start

Derrik looked at his new ship with a high level of irritation. A Yaki Fujin wasn't his idea of a new Fighter to go pirating with. A poorly ecquipped Fujin at that. He was almost certain that he could have built a ship in better condition that this one was. It looked like it was almost 20 years old. Wow, they really dug this one from the scrap pile, he thought to himself. He checked all the ecquipment on board. 1x1Mj shield?! Are they trying to kill him?

[ external image ]

[ external image ]

[ external image ]

Oh well. Afterall the Yaki did give him a ship. It will have to do... for now. He docked at the nearest shipyard - just out of curiousity - to see what other Yaki ships they had to offer. Docking manually, he momentarily crashed into the sides of the bay. Spending all that time in a Colossus and you start to lose your pilot skills...

[ external image ]

He went to the deck and found the ship dealer.

"Excuse me, do you mind showing me your ships available at the moment?"

"Ships?," the Shipyard Dealer said laughingly. "You look like you barely got enough money to afford a meatsteak cahoona!"

Several others in hearing distance started laughing as well.

"Oh well," the dealer said. "Follow me, I'll give you a tour."

After looking at most ships - which kept Derrik drooling in envy - the Dealer stopped short at a massive, gigantic M2. He put his hands in his pocket and let a sigh of satisfaction as Derrik spotted the M2.

"This my friend, is the Akuma..."

Derrik stood gaping at the ship, barely managing to catch a breath. An Akuma? That was not your average Destroyer class ship.

"H...ho...how much?"

"You must be dreaming if you think you can afford it. Just over 100'000'000c... and that's not even including decent weapons and shielding..."

Derrik gulped audibly at the sound of those prices.

"Well, one day. One day baby, and you'll be mine."

Mission Broadcast 1

"Greetings Derrik Dream. I see you have received the ship I have provided you. It may not be much, but even the most notorious pirates sometimes begin with very little. Please save this transmission of your first assignment to serve the Yaki:

The Yaki have a lack of information on the outer sectors. We need more intelligence reports on what the Paranid and Argon are doing in military terms so we can plot our attacks. Your first task will be to explore and properly map at least 20 Argon or Paranid sectors. When you have done so you may return for your next assignment.

Transmission end."

So.... these missions the Yaki set you- do they get you cash or rep? And if either is correct, then I suppose you'll be using the Script Editor to add them?
Allergic to work.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

No cash or rep... :)

The missions are more of challenges along the line of the plot. So as the game progresses I will be coming up with harder and more complicated missions. After the last mission, though, there will be a little reward...

Chapter 2 - Exploring the Surroundings

Derrik undocked safely from the shipyard in his Fujin. He looked around and saw the shipyard was offering a combat mission, but knowing the limitations of his new ship he declined. Drawing near to the North Gate, Derrik braced himself for the G-Force that would rip him up into millions of pieces and assemble him the other side. Pretty gruesome when you think of it that way, he thought. However, you are not aware of anything that's happened to your ship and body until you arrive the other side. When the Old Ones invented the Jump Gates they could have at least made the system to slow you down when you got the other end, not come out hurtling at lightspeed.

[ external image ]

[ external image ]

Derrik sat gaping at the view when he arrived at Ocracoke's Storm. Truly a magnificent view. The Yaki really know where to settle down, he thought.

[ external image ]

Derrik braced himself as he went though the next gate, this time to Savage Spur. He felt his heart pound hard as he realized that the next stop would be a Paranid Core sector. He began to feel nervous about being shot down by Sector Police, when he remembered what Gobanis had said to him a few days before.

Savage Spur:

[ external image ]

"I have given you a fake ID that will not be recognized by Police or Military. Your ship, as well, has been erased of any Yaki signatures, so when Police scan you they will see you as only a neutral ship. But be warned, if you attack any race ships, it will not take long before they realize who's side you are on. Your fake ID, I am afraid, will not get you through some sectors. The Paranid and Split are very prejudice of outsiders, so take care when travelling through their Core sectors..."

Great. The fake ID won't do for going straight thought the Paranid Core sectors. However, he knew there was no other way he could go. He would have to travel through the Core Sector very fast and very cautiously...

When he got to the other side, he was absolutely relieved that their were no hostile greetings from the Paranid. The Paranid did not seem to mind his existence in the Core sectors, nevertheless, docking on all stations were denied.

[ external image ]

Derrik realized that exploring the sector was going to be hard, with limited scanning range and a think cloud of nebulae dust blocking his view short of a few kilometers. Acting on pure instinct he travelled through the cloud mapping as many stations as he could and find all the traffic lanes and military movement in the sector. It seemed there was very much military traffic in the sector as Derrik soon found out.

[ external image ]

[ external image ]

Targeting several nearby ships, he targetted a Paranid Casino. Hmm, tempting...tempting, he thought. He realized though there were more important things to be done than to go on a gambling spree. After being satisfied with getting as many stations mapped as possible in the sector he took the South Gate to Preacher's Viod. Deciding he had had enough exploration for one day he docked at the Trading Station. At that point, he could think of nothing more important than getting a good pint of beer... (such a pity they banned Space Fuel.)

Drinking his beer, he sat at the window looking out onto the distant planet as it sunk into darkness and the sun fell behind it. He was captivated by the sunset when he noticed a Split sitting at the bar giving him a sharp sideways look. The Split eyes widened immediately and nudged another Split next to him. Derrik watched with great curiosity and concern, as the two Split engaged into a quiet discussion. They both got up and rushed out of the bar. No, something is seriously wrong, Derrik thought to himself. He got up 5 seconds later and ran out of the bar to follow the Split. Catching a glimse of them as the elevator door closed with the Split behind him, he hurried down the stairs as fast as possible to catch up with the lift. He watched keenly as the elevator reached the bottom. To his complete shock the lift opened and the Split were gone.

Had he got the wrong impression? Or had he been recognized by a Split?

Meanwhile at the Argon Senate...

"It will not take long before the media finds out Dream survived," Senator Hughes said to the Argon Senate. “He must be assassinated as soon as possible. At this point we have no information as to where he is and what he’s up to.”

“He is no threat to us,” Senator Rolland said. “His dear Colossus is space debris and his survival does not come with heaps of money and massive Destroyers. He is, as far as the Senate is concerned, as good as dead. He will be in a bar somewhere drinking away his problems with a pint of Space Fuel.”

“You are wrong about that. We have seen the same fire in him that burned in his grandfather. It is a shame that that fire has turned upon us. If we do not act quickly, he could pose as serious threat as his grandfather did once. You have all forgotten only too well the destruction his grandfather caused in Omicon Lyrae.”

“Take it easy, Senator,” replied Senator Rolland. “As long as he sticks with the Pirates, he will be as uncoordinated and lazy as the average scum we deal with from day to day. Unless he joins the Yaki, he is considered no threat whatsoever.”

“The Yaki, though, have been increasingly recruiting ex-Argon military to assist them in their cause ,” another Senator said.

“This, gentlemen, is all the more reason we need to act now,” Senator Hughes said. “If we do not get to him before the Yaki, we will have a new major threat on our hands. Derrik Dream has shown exceptional combat skills before in battle. The Yaki can easily take advantage of those skills if they find out who he really is…”
