That's coz I place my emphesis on the 'think' side of the game. Wink

Next chapter.

39. Scavenging

Or at least that's what I would be able to do with another ship that has a big cargo hold! So I decide to buy myself another TS. This time for scooping up all the lovely loot that I seem to keep missing for one reason or another. lol 1st however is the inspection of my bailed Harrier. Leaving Bofu Chemical Lab M Beta, I head for my Wheat complex. I dock the "Lazy Geordie" and shut her down for now. Exiting my ship and stepping into the docking area of the complex's hub, I walk over to the docking slot assigned to the Harrier. Just in time to see it clamped noisily into place.

Climbing into the tiny cockpit, I am reminded of the escapades I had in "Inferno" and also how much more vulnerable I feel, compared to flying the Vulcan.

Checking the ships hold again, I instruct the automated lifting droids to transfer the 5 APAC's to the hold of the "Lazy Geordie". Leaving only the Docking Computer on board. Checking over the rest of the Harrier via the computer, I see I took it down to 60% hull, before it's previous owner
decided he was better of leaving it to me! hehee. Deciding the ship is of little use to me right now, I secure her systems and return to my Vulcan.

I power the "Lazy Geordie" back up, and depart the complex. Once enough distance has been established, I initiate a jump to Family Pride. Hopefully, the bug eyed freaks will go easy on me if I spend some credits!

Docking at the local Shipyard, I decide to be brave and liase with the sales team face to face. Perhaps it will gain me a little respect. However, all I seem to get whilst making my way from the docking bay to the offices, is some very nasty looks! I hastily enter the office and I'm immediatly set upon by an over enthusiastic salesman!

"Split say, welcome friend. Split glad to see other races finally realising Split have superior ships!"

"Erm...Yeah, my thoughts exactly"

"Split say, you look like type who wants to buy big ship?" He says, with a horrid looking toothy smile.

Obviously he's looking for a big sale out of me!

"Kind of. I want to purchase one of your TS class vessels."

I see his happy, smiley expression quickly change to one of dissapointment.

"Split sure Split can help you buy big carrier ship, friend." He keeps trying the sales patter.

I chuckle back to him. "Not likely, my Split friend. I don't have enough standing with your race to buy one of your carriers. As much as I would like to."

I hand over my ID pad and watch him scurry over to one of the terminals dotted around the office. He returns a few moments later and hands the pad back.

"Please follow Split"

I follow him to a small darkened corner. On the wall next to a single terminal, is a sign with 'Trading Ships' on it. The Split don't care much for trading, I guess.

The salesman (or sales-Split if you like! lol) activates the terminal then turns to me.

"This best Split can offer." He says ushering me towards the screen.

I quickly scan through the entries and find what I'm looking for.

"I'll take 1 standard Caiman, 'L' variety for now thanks." I point to the entry on the screen.

The standard Caiman is perfect for scavenging dropped loot. As although lightly shielded for a TS, it's one of the fastest. This means it has a better chance of reaching it's target before anyone else.

I hand over my credit chip and watch him scurry off again. A wee while later, he returns, hands me my chip back and shakes my hand.

"Split say, many thanks for business. Ship in docking bay for depature." and

with that he turns away and heads towards his collegues.

Obviously to gloat he got a sale no doubt!

I make my way back towards the docking area once again, as quick as I can, but whilst trying not to draw attention to myself. I climb back into the "Lazy Geordie" and fire up the engines. I decide to leave the Caiman at the Split Shipyard just now. Whilst I gather a few extra items I need for it.

Namely a Jump Drive!

Ive left most of my stats the same as the previous chapter and hav'nt posted any pics, as I did'nt really 'play' this one out. Wink

Nope. It was a brand new Caiman. Or at least I hope it was! I would'nt put it past a Split to rip me off with a 'nearly new' vessel!

Next chapter coming up

Oh, and I've added a new rule to the 1st post. (Well, not really a rule more like info) I'll post it here to:

NOTE: Since I don't have many pilots or applications for new ones. (Nathan and MOTB still on file) Then any pilots currently in my DiD who are KIA, can reapply for a new slot in my fleet. Of course you will have to fill out a new application, with new details. But hopefully, this will prevent me from being unable to continue, due to lack of pilots.

40.Smashing With Silkworms

No sooner is my Jump Drive Kit (JDK) loaded into my cargo hold, when Betty beeps me an intel warning.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00502.jpg

Bloody typical! I'm sure the Pirates watch for when I'm not around, then come out to play when they think it's safe enough to do so! Humph!

Quickly warming up my ships systems, I thank the Traffic Control crew for allowing me a fast departure slot, and slowly edge out of my docking bay. As soon as it's safe to do so, I initiate a Jump to Ceo's Buckzoid.

Exiting the gate behind the Pirate group, I hit the Boost button and the chase is on. If a Vulcan can be said to chase that is! lol

Which I guess it can't. As the Pirates end up managing to exit Ceo's buckzoid, before I even get into Missile range!

I decide I'm not wasting the jump fuel I spent getting here, so I go after them. Even though destroying them in Boron Space will mean I only get a reputation boost with the Boron. Rather than a bounty and a rep boost. Since I don't have the Boron Police Licence yet.

The Pirates end up also crossing Menelaus Frontier into Rolk's Fate, before I get close enough.

This had better be worth it!

Entering Rolk's Fate, I spy my quarry and again give chase. However, I fail to notice a Pirate Disco sneak up on me. Until I hear a few rounds being fired from my automated turrets that is!

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00504.jpg

Cheeky little bugger! lol

My turrets soon see him off though and I resume course after my original 3 targets.

As soon as I enter Missile range I let fly. Concentrating on the 2 Buzzards 1st. They both fall to a single volley of Silkworm's up their tailpipes! the Pirate Falcon Vanguard though, proves to be as tough as a Teladi hide. I fire off another round, but only succeed in draining his shield to about 1/3. I notice he's too busy fending off the local fuzz to see me, So I fire another salvo.

And.....

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00507.jpg

Eventually!

Seeing that there is no salvage to be had, I decide to jump to the nearest SPP, for a refuel. In this case, Power Circle.

Filling the "Lazy Geordie" with a decent supply of E-cells, I check the BBS. As luck would have it, I see an advert for a satellite replacement contract, after having to abandon my search for one previously and snap up the offer. Now I don't have to worry about losing sats in Power Circle.

Not so lucky, is another intel warning from Betty. This time a Kha'ak Cluster has invaded Ceo's Buckzoid!

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00509.jpg

Time to play clean up! hehe

Jumping into the target sector, I set my sights once more on my desired target. Or targets in this case!

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00511.jpg

I move to within range, slow to a stop, then activate my good old Missile computer program.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00512.jpg

The first salvo is launched as the Kha'ak M3 turns towards me. However it's only a short time before the fireworks start....

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00513.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00514.jpg

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00523.jpg

Now that was fun! So much fun infact, I got my combat rank promoted, twice! First to Eagle Eye, then Professional. YAY! Not to mention the bounties I got for each downed Kha'ak. Plus a salvaged Sting Missile.

Checking my stats, I notice I swatted 20 Kha'ak ships and am left with 34 Silkworm Missiles. Not bad. I also notice a lone Pirate Buster trying to sneak across Teladi Gain.

Time to call Sabre Squadron back into action methinks. Smile

More awesome awesomeness coming your way, my friend. Wink

41. Pirates Peril

I quickly send a message to Mckenna and the lads are off like a shot after their prey. Whilst they chase down the Buster, I head for the the Ceo's Buckzoid Equipment Dock to sell of the Sting Missile I salvaged earlier.

It takes a while before I get confirmation, but Sabre Squardon eventually catch up with the Pirate Buster in Menelaus Frontier. Sabre 4 scores the kill. That's another one for Fandalis.

I call the boys back into our patrol area and tell them to do a few circuits on their own, until another opportunity arises. Whilst I stay in the vacinity and carry on working. First job of the day is found in Ceo's Buckzoid...

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00527.jpg

A nice easy job from my contacts at the Merchants Guild. Especially easy, as I can take what Silicon I need from my mine in Ore Belt. Heh

So, a quick hope over to Ore Belt, Load up with the 106 units of Silicon required. Then a quick hop back to Ceo's Buckzoid and.....

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00528.jpg

Yay! Another job done. lol My joy is short lived though, as Mckenna calls in.

"Erm...Boss? You may want to check your satellite feed in Ceo's Buckzoid. Do you want us to engage?"

"Wait 1, whilst I take a look." I reply. Checking the feed reveals.....

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00529.jpg

Oh bugger!

"Mckenna. Do not engage. Repeat. Do NOT engage."

"I did'nt think so! Taking evasive action."

I continue watching the feed until I'm sure Sabre Squadron are out of harms way. Before I continue looking for delivery work.

I suppose what they say is true. There IS safety in numbers. Especially if some of that number happen to be big, nasty M3+ Pirate ships! I keep a close eye on the group in question and eventually they leave the area via Teladi Gain.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00530.jpg

All is not lost though. As Mckenna radios in shortly after this to announce another kill for himself. This time, a lone Pirate Harrier is unlucky enough to wander into range of my ships. Very Happy

I'm starting the think that Pirates are up to something today. As another powerful group crosses Teladi Gain. Either they are up to something, or they're fed up of me and the boys taking chunks out of them! lol

Speaking of the Pirates. My Teladi friends were more than happy enough to provide me with details on several Pirate sectors today...

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00532.jpg

Costly, but worth it in my opinion.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00533.jpg

Right I've had enough of these buggers! *Red mist descends*

I leave dock as fast as I can, and head towards the group. Setting up my Missile program again, I thump the execute button and watch the Silkworm's fly.

The BlastClaw, Elite and Harrier are obliterated. I fist-pump the air. The joy on my face, quickly turns to one of horror though. As a very angry looking Falcon Vangaurd emerges from the debris cloud. His shields are practically gone, but he is still alive!!

Oh me! And I'm fresh out of Silkworms!

On it's way soon. On another note:

I don't suppose anyone would like to volunteer to be pilot of "Scavenger 1"? Obviously there would be no combat involved, and there probably would'nt be much mention of this ship really. But, I would really like to have "real" Pilots in all my ships.

Plus this has given me an idea. From this point, since I'm not really going to get many pilots, If you so desire, you can have more than one character involved in my DiD. You may also reapply for another positrion in my empire, if you die.

heh heh, how many we allowed to have? i think i know a guy willing to take on the job of scavenger

Fredrick Milkyvich "Or Freddy Milk for short"
Ship name "The White Crow"
This man is an accomplished scavenger, he can smell a fight a sector away, and boost over there to collect the goods before any other pilot,
Hence the nickname "Milk" , as he seems to be able to milk any fight for the maximun amount of profit. He's even commed them saying "FIRE THE HAMMERHEAD!!!" oh and hes slightly loose in the head, but then u gotta be, to fly into war sectors with only your TS for protection

Interested?

Perfect. Thank you Nathan

Shall we continue? Very Happy

42. Milky

Our proximity to each other left me with no choice. I had to engage the Falcon! So I acivate the Boost button, and go head-to-head with the Pirate.

"Here we go!" I thought. As we approached firing range.

I watch the distance-to-target readout rapidly decrease. Then, at the last possible second, I pull the "Lazy Geordie" into an extremely steep climb. This would allow me to bring, what I feel are, my best weapons to bear. Namely the Pulse Beam Emitters, which I have installed in the belly of my ship.

I hear the first volley explode from the barrels. Whilst at the same time, feel the ship begin to take a battering from the Falcons front weapons.

"Shields critical." announces Betty. Just what I wanted to hear!

I roll the Vulcan to allow the PBE's the track the Pirate, who has now passed underneith me. I then push the controls forward to bring the ship level, whilst keeping the Falcon below.

Sparks fly, and a panel blows off the cockpit wall. Thanks to another volley from my dancing partner. I glance at the control readouts. 86% hull integrity. I am about to consider an emergency jump out, when the Pirate dissappears from the Gravidar. I roll the ship slightly, and gaze out of the cockpit. Just in time to see the fireball that was the Falcon dissapate.

Yay for me! Good job his shields were practicaly gone, before we went toe to toe! PHEW! Very Happy

I bring the ship to a halt, and survey the damage done. Checking over the systems, I see no major problems except for the hull. I then check the surrounding area, and find quite a hoard just waiting to be scooped up!

13 x Quantum Tubes
90 x Warheads
3000 x E-Cells (approx. Can't remember the exaclt figure! lol)

Looks like the Pirates had some fun with someone else, before I turned up!

I quickly access the comm and contact my new pilot. I'm surprised I actually managed to find someone crazy enough to work as a scavenger for me. lol He will be putting himself at an even greater risk than Sabre Squadron! I'm also taking a risk hiring him, according to his references, but I think he'll do a good job. Especially since I promised him a wage, PLUS commission on whatever he can salvage!

"I'm already on my way." He says.

"Eh? How did you know??............."

"Oh don't worry. I hacked your ships sensor log. I can see what your ship sees." Hmmmmmm. I'll have to keep an eye on this one!

Should have known he would be a bit 'crazy' when he asked me to rename the Caiman to "The White Cow".......

As soon as Fredrick exits the gate, I set my sensors on the Caiman, and watch as it starts hoovering up the Tubes and Warheads. Whilst I quickly grab the E-Cells.

After the clean up is comeplete, I tell Milky to sell the contents of his hold, Whilst I initiate a jump to The Vault.

After docking, I change ships to the Octopus. So that I can send the Vulcan for repairs. Also to reflect on my recent dice with death!

I remotly send the "Lazy Geordie" to the nearest repair yard in Home of Opportunity. Whilst waiting, I start to scour the nearby area for work. It does'nt take long before I find a suitable job...

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00534.jpg

Whilst on the first run, I recieve a message from the mechanic at the repair yard...

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00535.jpg

Holy Argnu! Remind me never take risks like that again!

Thankfully, my passenger doesnt start to question why I suddenly change moods. Good job to, or I would've shoved him out the air lock!

We carry on with the run and manage to make 6 or so dealines, before I tell him I've had enough.

That will go some way to alleviate the pain of the repair bill I just recieved!

After leaving my taxi contract, I decide to head back to the "Lazy Geordie". As luck would have it, my final taxi job brought me to Home of Opportunity, So I don't have too far to travel.

I change ships again, and send the "Xcellerate" back to The Vault. Whilst I jump to Family Rhonkar to refuel the Vulcan. After purchasing a load of E-Cells, I instruct the "Lazy Geordie" And "The White Cow", to jump and dock at my Wheat complex in Rolks Drift.

Once all my ships have docked safely, I transfer the Docking Computer, left over from the captured Harrier, To Milky's ship. I then pack the Harrier off to the Shipyard in Kingdom End, to be sold. I decided it was of no real use to me.

Whilst waiting for the Harrier to dock, I continue the search for work. But due to the Harrier's "Sort of" (Very Happy) superiour speed, I dont find anyting before it docks. I net myself 60k after selling it with 60% hull integrity. I do however find something suitable afterwards...

Not bad

So a quick jump to the Boron Military Shipyeard in Rolk's Fate later and...

Another 322k for the bank. Very Happy

I think I'll limit it to 2 for now. To give others a chance to apply. Can't have you playing everyone! lol Plus, I still have the previous applications from MoTB and yourself on file.

Short chapter coming up peeps. As I have a feeling the next one will be quite long. If all goes well..........Wink

43.Return Of The STUPID BASTU moments!

Thanks to that cash I made earlier, I decided I can stock back up on those lovely Silkworm Missiles. And assist Sabre Squadron with some more Pirate/Xenon/Kha'ak bashing! Very Happy

So, I jump to Ceo's Sprite and manage to buy 100 Silkworms from the Missile fab there. I then jump back to the old stomping ground that is our patrol route and call the boys out to play! Very Happy

As I wait for them to arrive in Teladi Gain, our first play dates arrive! heh

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00547.jpg

I press the comm panel.

"Your about to miss all the fun boys"

"Save some for us. We're moving as quick as we can!"

"Don't worry. They're all yours!"

After a few Mizura's, Sabre Squadron finally arrive.

I watch from distance as the deadly dance of doom begins.

So. Apollo hammered the Harrier and Fendalis busted the Buster. Very Happy

Nice

As we continue our patrol loop, I contact Milky again and ask him to buy me another supply of Silkworms. You can never have too many Missiles! lol So, a short time later he informs me he managed to obtain 98 of them. I then send him to the Trading Station in Queens Space, until I can reach him.

It's about this point when I notice an item on my cargo manifest that I forgot all about! A 1 x 1 MJ shield unit to be precise. Can't remember where that came from. Must've been from one of my Mercury station traders perhaps?

Another STUPID BASTU moment! Suppose it's been a while since I had one. lol

I tell Sabre Squadron to take a break, whilst I make my way to the Equipment Dock in Ceo's Buckzoid to sell the Shield Generator. Afterwards, I jump to Queens Space to obtain my second load of Silkworm's from Milky.

However. Shortly after jumping in, my old friends the Kha'ak show up! Typical! Oh well, time to give their Bastu's another kicking! lol

*Rubs hands together, then warms up missile program*

You're about to find out!.........

44. A Right Royal Rescue

There was a good reason for me jumping to Queens Space to rendezvous with Milky's load of Silkworm's......

That Cluster netted me approx 100k in bounties, half a dozen or so Missiles, and 1 downed Boron Pilot. After dropping off the pilot and collecting my load of explody things, I change ships to "Xcellerate". I had the Octopus travel here, as well as "Inferno", and wait for me. Whilst I collected the "Lazy Geordie" from the Repair Yard in Home Of Opportunity.

Now for some action!

Remember a long time ago now, I was contacted by my 'Fishy' friends? In order to assist them in rescuing their Princess from a bunch of Pirates? For those of you who can't remember, I'll trawl through my ship's computer memory core for you.........

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00128.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00129.jpg

So. Incase you hav'nt already guessed, today I'm going to attempt to rescue the Royal Boron Princess. Smart? No. Silly? maybe. But I have to try. If I loose my life in the process, then at least it was for a good cause! This will also give me the chance to start on that little list of things to do. Which I started way back in chapter 14!

Quote:
So, for now I have 2 missions on hold

1) Find the missing OTAS ship
2) Rescue the kidnapped Boron Princess

I catch up with Sabre Squadron to let them know what I'm doing. But not before I pay a quick visit to the local trading station for a bit of business....

"What?! Are you totally crazy??" Comes Mckenna's response. Which was'nt really surprising.

"Take us with you Boss! I need more kills!" This time from Jack Jomar.

"Sorry Jack. Not this time. You boys have built up quite a reputation in the time I've known you. So, if and when they see you, the Pirates will get wind of what we're up to straight away, and will throw everything at us."

"Surely you're not going in alone though?" Asks Apollo.

"Nope. I'll have a wee bit of backup in the form of the new pilot I just hired. Lucifer. He'll be flying with Mosquito Missile's, as will I. They should get us through to where we need to be. He's a complete unknown. So that should throw the Pirates of the scent."

"So, where is he?"

"He's in the docking bay, with "Inferno". I've given him a loan of my Disco until we get back. Then I'll get him a Harrier Sentinel, and he'll join you guys. If we survive that is!"

"What if you don't" questions Mckenna.

I turn to face him.

"I've made arrangements to have my little empire broken up and split between you lot. Equally."

A look of total bewilderment crosses Mckenna's face.

"Wer'nt expecting that were you Mckenna?"

With that I bid farewell to the rest of the boys, and make my way back to the docking bay. But, just before I exit the bar, a flabergasted Mckenna finally manages to call out.

"I still say you're nuts boss!"

"We'll see Mckenna, we'll see."

So. Here goes nothing!

I quickly find the Boron Royal Yacht and contact the Captain.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/CaptainBo1.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/CaptainBo2.jpg

Ok. It's off to Brennan's Triumph we go.

The trip is quite uneventful, untill we enter Brannan's Triumph itself. Where we are confonted by several Pirate Vessels. Incliding 3 Marauders. They begin to throw Goblins at us. (From Gazz's MARS script).

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00565.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00566.jpg

We manage to beat back the Goblins, thanks to our supply of Mosquito Missiles. Evetually, after many Mizura's spent dodging the Pirates, we find our contact. We execute the fake transfer.....

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00567.jpg

He's smart, but not smart enough to notice me transporting over to Lucifer in "Inferno". Wink

I quickly instruct the Octopus to dock at the nearest friendly station, in Elena's Fortune. However before it get's there, Betty informs me of it's destruction! Sad

My first ship loss! Luckily it was only fliying by Autopilot. But it still hurts!

After squeezing into the cockpit alongside Lucifer I check the Gravidar, and notice at keast 14 Pirate vessels are now in pursuit. As well as several Goblin Fighter Drones.

YIKES!

We begin to follow and Observe the Pirate Courier Ship. Luckily the Elite enters Split Fire, where it's much quieter!

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll3/MickR042/x3screen00569.jpg

Not so though, as I soon realise where he is heading. I look at the Gravidar again, and see a Pirate Galleon sitting menacingly behind the South Gate!

Oh bugger!! Maybe this was'nt such a good idea.....
